Monica Rambeau took another step with her MCU superhero transformation in WandaVision episode 9 - but how do her powers compare to those of Captain Marvel? Teyonah Parris portrayed the adult version of the figure in WandaVision after the character made her debut in the 2019 movie that officially introduced Carol Danvers (Brie Larson). As expected, Monica followed in the footsteps of Carol and her mother, Maria Rambeau (Lashana Lynch), by joining the United States Air Force. After working with S.W.O.R.D. to investigate Wanda's (Elizabeth Olsen) control over Westview, Monica encountered the Hex's walls, resulting in her newfound powers.

In Captain Marvel, Monica was an 11-year-old living with her mother in the mid-'90s. When Carol reunited with the pair, they attempted to help the pilot obtain her memories. In doing so, Monica and Maria were introduced to Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Skrulls in need of assistance. It was clear Monica was very fond of Carol and even helped her pick the official Captain Marvel suit's coloring. Despite being little "Lieutenant Trouble" in Carol's mind, Monica grew up to be a captain in the Air Force before reappearing in the MCU through WandaVision. Having fallen victim to Thanos' Snap, Monica returned to find that her mother had passed away while she was gone. Her current relationship with Carol is unclear, but Monica is set to reunite with her mother's best friend in Captain Marvel 2, as confirmed in the WandaVision series finale's credits scene.

Though Monica was given compelling powers during her WandaVision arc, she's linked to arguably the strongest hero in the MCU. Captain Marvel's powers are practically unmatched among the fellow Avengers, allowing her to sit atop the list. Not only does Carol have the prototypical superhero attributes like strength, durability, speed, healing, and reflexes, but her powers are photon-based. She can absorb dangerous levels of energy while also manipulating cosmic energy in the form of proton blasts. In her binary form, Captain Marvel is nearly unstoppable since the forceful aura allows for flight and augmented durability. The comics' version of Monica in her Spectrum or Photon arc puts her at a similar level as Captain Marvel, but the MCU version isn't quite there yet.

Monica's Powers Haven't Fully Evolved In The MCU

When Monica was blasted through the Hex by Wanda, the energy rewrote her DNA. In time, it was revealed Monica's altered physiology gave her the abilities of spectral vision, which allowed her to view energy from the electromagnetic spectrum. Like Captain Marvel, Monica now has the power of energy absorption, but she also has kinetic energy absorption, rendering her bulletproof. When a gun was fired at Billy and Tommy in WandaVision, Monica stepped in front of the gunshots as they passed through her body, slowing down the bullets in the process.

If Monica were to fight Captain Marvel in the MCU, Carol would clearly have the upper hand. Granted, Monica is still in the process of learning the true nature of her powers as she hardly scratched the surface with her immense potential in WandaVision. If the character evolves into a hero, Captain Marvel would have a new competitor in the franchise's strongest hero. Monica's comic book power allows the figure to transform herself into any form of energy. Aside from flight, this immortal version of Monica can become invisible. If the MCU's Monica gets even a portion of her comic book counterpart's, she could potentially be an equal when compared to Captain Marvel.
