The Marvel Cinematic Universe has a new fan-favorite character on its hands with Monica Rambeau, and here's what the future holds for her after WandaVision. Prior to Teyonah Parris taking over the role, Monica Rambeau joined the MCU in Captain Marvel. She was only a kid during that movie, but her inclusion teased that Marvel had bigger plans for the character. The announcement of Parris playing an adult version of Monica confirmed this to be true, and WandaVision has given her a chance to shine.

Monica's role in WandaVision began as "Geraldine" after the Hex pulled her into Westview. The show later revealed that Monica was among the many people snapped by Thanos and brought back by Hulk. This caused her to miss the death of her mother, Maria Rambeau, but she quickly got back to work with SWORD. Her involvement in investigating the Hex led her to experience firsthand what life is like inside the warped reality, but her repeated passing through the barrier also gave Monica energy-based superpowersWandaVision has set her up to be one of many new heroes who will be around for the MCU's future, and Marvel has already provided some clues as to what lies ahead for Monica.

Marvel Studios previously confirmed where Monica Rambeau would appear next after WandaVision. Kevin Feige announced her return for Captain Marvel 2, which Nia DaCosta directs. Monica's appearance in the highly-anticipated sequel will see her reunite with Carol Danvers, a.k.a. Captain Marvel (Brie Larson), although they might not be on great terms when it begins. It is unknown what role Monica will play in Captain Marvel 2, but she's one of many superheroes expected to appear. Kamala Khan, a.k.a. Ms. Marvel (Iman Vellani) is part of the cast, too.

Teyonah Parris as Monica Rambeau in WandaVision

Beyond her appearance in Captain Marvel 2, Monica should have an extremely bright future in the MCU. Since she is already investigating a case in Westview, New Jersey, Monica isn't too far away from Jersey City. She could appear in Ms. Marvel to look into whatever event gives Kamala her powers (perhaps more of WandaVision's cosmic microwave background radiation), and this would give Monica and Kamala a connection ahead of Captain Marvel 2. There's also the chance that Monica could return for Secret Invasion. The Disney+ show led by Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and Talos (Ben Mendelsohn) is expected to set up Captain Marvel 2 somehow. If SWORD plays a role in Secret Invasion as well, then Monica would be a natural fit.

Monica's future in the MCU also has a lot of room to grow and could see her end up on a superteam before too long. During her time as Captain Marvel/Spectrum/Photon/etc. in the comics, Monica had leadership roles on the Avengers and the Ultimates. Marvel Studios has yet to announce Avengers 5, much less who will be on the roster, but Monica is a strong contender to appear. If Marvel also decides to bring the Ultimates to the MCU, Monica can work with Carol Danvers, Blue Marvel, America Chavez, and others. There's also the likelihood that Monica will be involved in an all-female team-up movie that Marvel does, whether that is Avengers 5A-Force, or something else entirely.

While Monica will have no trouble finding a future in the MCU appearing in other people's properties, Marvel could eventually give her a starring role. Fans have really come to love Teyonah Parris's portrayal of the character, and Monica has a huge following from the comics already. It won't be too surprising if she gets her own movie or Disney+ show down the road. Clearly, Monica Rambeau's MCU story is just getting started with WandaVision, and Marvel has plenty of options to keep utilizing her moving forward.
