Clint Barton has always had a significant problem when stacking up against the other Avengers in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and the fan complaint just got much worse in Hawkeye. Actor Jeremy Renner's Clint Barton has been a staple of Marvel's films since a cameo in 2011's Thor. The master archer has repeatedly answered the call when the world is in trouble throughout the MCU's first decade. He's taken on aliens in The Avengers; he's faced deadly AI robots in Avengers: Age of Ultron, and he even had to watch his best friend sacrifice herself to save the universe in Avengers: Endgame. And the character's journey still isn't over.

Despite most of the original Avengers going their separate ways after Endgame, Barton returns in the Disney+ series Hawkeye. The new series finds Hawkeye somehow dealing with his deadly past as Ronin in a fun-filled holiday adventure through New York City. Barton even takes a new arrow-shooting apprentice under his wing in the series, as Hailee Steinfeld's Kate Bishop makes her MCU debut. Together, the pair need to use their archery skills to take on a clandestine group of Molotov cocktail-throwing thugs and save the holidays (and possibly the world).

Throughout his time in the MCU, Hawkeye has seemed out of place among the Avengers, and now that problem gets even worse. While most of the other MCU heroes have specific superpowers or even assassin training, Jeremy Renner's Hawkeye mainly just shoots arrows well. However, in a recent interview, Hailee Steinfeld revealed he doesn't even do that. The actor, who previously thought she'd have to be a master archer for filming, learned that wasn't the case. "It's all CGI," Renner apparently told her. So not only does the character only shoot arrows, but Hawkeye's arrows aren't even real. And now the character becomes even worse.

Hawkeye aiming four arrows in Captain America: Civil War

With Hawkeye's arrows being completely CGI, the MCU hero becomes even more of an afterthought. To his credit, Hawkeye acknowledges his limitations in Age of Ultron, taking a jab at his lack of powers during Ultron's (James Spader) assault. "The city is flying, we're fighting an army of robots, and I have a bow and arrow," he says. But Hawkeye doesn't really have a bow and arrow. The arrows are all fake. Other heroes in the MCU, such as Hulk, use a ton of CGI, but they have to. After all, Mark Ruffalo doesn't turn into a giant green monster when he's angry. However, Hawkeye could easily have real arrows. With the revelation that Hawkeye's arrows are CGI, the character seems even more out of place among the gods and superpowered humans.

Despite Hawkeye's power limitations, Barton's humanity is a big reason he still belongs in the Avengers. It's easy for characters such as Chris Evans' Captain America or Chris Hemsworth's Thor to charge into battle. They're nearly invincible. However, Hawkeye keeps the Avengers more grounded. Because of the character, regular people can see themselves represented in the films, knowing that there's a heroic side to them too. Of course, ordinary people would probably use real arrows, but perhaps Clint Barton can make up for that when he takes center stage in Hawkeye.
