Iron Man’s death in Avengers: Endgame unintentionally ruined Peter Parker’s life. As shown by the attendees at Tony Stark’s (Robert Downey Jr.) funeral, the figure's Endgame death was hard on many characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Even those who didn’t know him well, including the Guardians of the Galaxy and Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel, were in attendance. Of all the hardship, though, only one funeral attendee had their life completely destroyed.

Tony Stark first met Peter Parker (Tom Holland) in Captain America: Civil War, when he recruited him to be on Team Iron Man. The pair’s relationship continued to evolve over subsequent films, such as Spider-Man: Homecoming, with Stark taking Parker under his wing and giving him more and more upgraded technology. Stark became more than just Spider-Man’s mentor. He was basically Parker’s surrogate father, and the pair had one of the most touching relationships in the MCU. Unfortunately, that may come back to bite Spider-Man.

Peter Parker's Spidey is Stark’s protege in the MCU, and their relationship is no secret. Throughout Spider-Man: Far From Home, which follows the events of Endgame, there are questions if Spider-Man is going to be the new Iron Man or even the head Avenger. “What is it like to take over from Tony Stark,” one reporter asks while Spider-Man faces a barrage of questions. Even with his secret identity intact, the questions are overwhelming. After being unmasked in Far From Home, they’re a nightmare. Spider-Man has no safety nets now. He’s got no Tony Stark, he’s got no secret identity, and all the villains Iron Man has wronged know it.

Tony Stark Iron man 3 Edith Spiderman far from home

During his MCU run, Stark had a penchant for making enemies, and as shown in the Iron Man movies, those enemies have no problem making house calls. This is bad news for Spider-Man. With no Iron Man around, Spidey is likely on the hook for any retaliation. He’s even already had a taste of it. In Far From Home, Parker is in the crosshairs when disgruntled Stark Industries employees, including Jake Gyllenhaal’s Quentin Beck, want to take revenge after being slighted for years by their former boss.

The Stark employees are just the start of Iron Man’s unwanted parting gift to his apprentice. Actor Alfred Molina, who reprises his Doc Ock character in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home, said in an interview (via Variety) that director Jon Watts told him “no one really dies” in the Marvel universe. That means Jeff Bridges' Obadiah Stane from Iron Man, Guy Pearce’s Aldrich Killian from Iron Man 3, and James Spader's Ultron from Avengers: Age of Ultron are all on the table to take their revenge out on Spider-Man. This isn't even counting Spider-Man’s own villains, including Doc Ock, who will likely be gunning for him in No Way Home.

By having Spider-Man as a mentee, Iron Man put an unbearable burden on him. Sure, Stark left Spider-Man his weaponized sunglasses, E.D.I.T.H. in Far From Home. It was the least he could do. Unlike when Iron Man became a hero, Peter Parker is still a kid. With all the responsibility Stark's placed on him due to his Avengers: Endgame death, he will need all the help he can get.
