The upcoming MCU release, Thor: Love and Thunder, set to hit theatres on July 8, 2022, marks the on-screen return of the beloved Guardians. Amongst them is Drax, a fan-favorite character since his introduction in Guardians of the Galaxy.

With his tragic backstory, unintentionally witty remarks, and brutal honesty, Drax's popularity was inevitable. His presence not only completes the Guardians but also makes for some hilarious scenes within the MCU, such as his classic Infinity War line. His existence in the MCU can be summed up aptly with quality meme content.

Misunderstandings

One of Drax's main character selling points is his hilarious misinterpretations. Whether it be Earth lingo or misreading a situation, Drax speaks what is on his mind without much further thought or deliberation.

As showcased in this meme by Redditor Carter_B123, the results of these misunderstandings make for some frustrating moments with the other MCU characters, but some memorable funny scenes for viewers.

All Bark No Bite

One of Reddit's unpopular opinions about the Guardians of the Galaxy is that Drax's character has been ruined. He is first introduced as an incredibly cunning and spite-filled man, bent upon killing Gamora to hurt Thanos and Ronan and thus avenge the murders of his family.

However, his contempt dies down soon and each film appearance has him appear less and less menacing. Despite being known as "Drax the Destroyer," the MCU rendition of Drax is far tamer than other adaptations, as shown by Reddit user Marlesden.

Always Helpful

Drax's inadvertent sarcasm is part of his charm and is excellently paired with his well-timed humor. One of the best examples of this is in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when he tells Mantis to look out after she has already been hit in the head.

This interaction proves Drax's comedic relief skills and also exemplifies his questionable helpfulness, something many viewers, such as Redditor comrade_batman, poke fun at by incorporating it into a Tony Stark scene.

Ridiculing Others

While Drax's character is an MCU gem with some of the funniest quotes in the Guardians of the Galaxy series, there is no question that he can be a bit abrasive when it comes to understanding and interacting with others, as shown by @JOSH_DALEK.

Of course, these harsh reactions stem from Drax's straightforward and transparent nature, however, that unfortunately does not excuse his unkind - albeit harmless - judgment of others.

In a Nutshell

Despite being so straightforward, Drax's character still does have depth and complexity to him. In fact,  most of his existence within the MCU is reliant on his simplicity.

That is why this meme shared by Redditor samobobnar perfectly sums up Drax's overall personality in the MCU: he is chill, friends with Quill (and ergo the rest of the squad), and is known for his moments of hilarity, such as his mastery "of standing so incredibly still that [he] becomes invisible to the eye."

Literal Interpretations

Drax is a very literal character in the MCU, something made apparent by his constant confusion regarding expressions used by the others.

This is captured accurately in this meme shared by @macmerise, which hits two birds with one stone by referencing Steve's "watch your language" line with Drax's imagined response - a missed opportunity for the MCU to have yet another great Drax/Avengers interaction.

Power of Invisibility

Drax's line from Infinity War about mastering the ability to become invisible has become one of his most beloved and widely remembered quotes, defining him within the MCU fandom.

It is also the subject of many memes, such as this one shared by Reddit user AmLimited. Although Drax has a very buff presence in his other on-screen appearances, he will be remembered in the third Avengers film for his impressive invisibility.

Asking The Real Questions

In one of the best MCU moments, Drax interjects the interrogation on Titan to ask the others the iconic question: "WHY is Gamora?" This line has become synonymous with Drax's best moments and is a highlight of the third Avengers film, becoming one of Infinity War's best memes.

One such example is this meme shared by Redditor Sk8d3r, which brands Drax not as a hilarious jokester, but instead as a philosopher asking the real questions.

Him and Mantis

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 saw the team being introduced to a future member of their crew, Mantis. The newbie quickly befriends Drax in the film, forming one of the best ships in the Guardians of the Galaxy movies.

Her closeness with Drax is due partly to their parred literalness and inept social skills. Their first genuine conversation demonstrates both Drax's accidental insults and genuine kindness, as he first calls Mantis hideous, then immediately reassures her by saying that means people like her for who she is on the inside. He calls her his new friend, just like this meme shared by Reddit user TheBrickPal.

Infinite Wisdom

Although Drax is often shown as a stoic character, he also has moments of immense emotion that prove his complexity and hidden depths, such as this scene shared by Redditor mr_rook_na.

By sharing his wise words with Mantis about beauty and love, Drax once again proves himself to be infinitely more than the comedic relief character. His worth within the Guardians is shown time and again throughout his films, and hopefully, the upcoming Thor: Love and Thunder will include some more heartwarming Drax moments.
