Emily Blunt reveals she has not spoken to Marvel about a role in the MCU's Fantastic Four reboot. Following Disney's acquisition of 20th Century Fox's entertainment assets last year, Marvel's First Family are now back home and can be implemented into the MCU. While nothing's been officially dated at this point in time, Kevin Feige did confirm during San Diego Comic-Con 2019 a new Fantastic Four movie is in development. After Fox's multiple failed attempts to launch a successful franchise based on the comic book, many fans are excited to see what Feige and Marvel Studios can do with the characters.

In light of official concrete details, fans have spent their time speculating who might play the Fantastic Four when they make their return to the big screen. For a while, popular choices for Reed Richards and Sue Storm are real-life couple John Krasinski and Emily Blunt, both of whom have flirted with Marvel in the past. Blunt was in talks to play Black Widow for Iron Man 2, while Krasinski was in the running for Captain America. They may get another opportunity to join the franchise soon, but right now Blunt hasn't discussed Fantastic Four with the studio.

During an interview with Screen Rant promoting A Quiet Place Part II, we asked Blunt about her rumored talks with Marvel. She stated that speculation was "not true" and offered her thoughts on being fan-cast in the new Fantastic Four:

My whole thing is fan casting is wonderful and flattering. If it’s hypothetical and no one’s spoken to me about it, then I’m like, that’s nice. I don’t know, I don’t know what to say.

Blunt would certainly be a great choice for Sue Storm, having already proven her action chops in Edge of Tomorrow (and she'll display them again in Disney's Jungle Cruise this summer). She also has the acting range to pull off both serious and lighthearted roles with ease. Blunt was a double-nominee at the 2019 SAG Awards for A Quiet Place and Mary Poppins Returns (two films with very different tones), winning for the latter. She'd definitely be more than capable of handling the comedy and dramatic character moments Marvel movies are known for. And as the MCU transitions in a post-Endgame world, without icons like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, and Scarlett Johansson, Blunt would be a marquee name for the franchise to feature the next handful of years. Of course, it'll be interesting to see if she's up for joining the MCU now.

The MCU's Fantastic Four movie is still a ways away. At the earliest, it could possibly take one of Marvel's mystery 2022 slots, so it's possible the studio hasn't even begun the process of meeting with actors yet. The project is still in its earliest stages as Marvel figures out how they're going to implement the Fantastic Four into their universe. Once they have a plan in place, they'll start putting the necessary pieces together. Perhaps then Blunt will be one of the candidates to play Sue Storm.
