Back in 1996, DC and Marvel comics did the unthinkable. Together, they published the miniseries DC vs. Marvel Comics (or Marvel Comics vs. DC, depending on which issues you read).

In those four issues, the best heroes that each publisher had to offer duked it out for brand supremacy. Sure, the two companies had worked together in the past and have since co-published a few issues here and there, but this was the big one.

In between issues three and four, things got crazy. Within the pages of the crossover, the two universes merged, creating a new universe with brand new characters. Amalgam Comics took heroes and villains from DC and Marvel and combined them.

This gave us hybrids like Super Soldier who was Superman mixed with Captain America and Doctor Doomsday who was (obviously) Doctor Doom blended with Doomsday. It also provided us with Darkclaw. This all took place 22 years ago.

In the two-plus decades since this crossover happened, fans have continued to combine heroes and villains from both universes to create their own unique characters.

Now that superheroes are more popular than ever, thanks to movies, we’re going to check out a few designs that could warrant their own movies if DC and Marvel ever decided to battle on the big screen.

Here are the 17 MCU And DCEU Mashups That Every Die-Hard Fan Needs To See!

Batman & Iron Man

There are a lot of parallels that can be drawn between Bruce Wayne and Tony Stark. Obviously, in their civilian identities, they are both a, to quote Stark, “Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.

It’s really when they don their superhero costumes where the differences begin to shine. As Iron Man, Stark remains snarky and fun-loving, whereas Bruce Wayne’s Batman is a dark and brooding force of justice.

This mashup here, created by BossLogic Inc., borrows a lot of the dark and brooding aspects of Batman and gives it the technological upgrades of Iron Man.

It is the perfect combination of the Batman costume from Batman v Superman and many of Iron Man’s stealth armors that he often uses in the comics to go behind enemy lines undetected.

Superman & The Hulk

For those of you who claim that Superman is an overpowered and unfair character, take a look at this. If the Incredible Hulk were to have heat vision, x-ray vision, and flight in addition to strength amplified beyond one’s imagination, no villain would stand a chance.

Aside from beefing Kal-El up to ridiculous proportions and tearing up his Superman costume, there isn’t that much going on here. However, there doesn’t need to be.

It’s the simplicity of this mashup that makes it work so well. With his mangled uniform, it looks like Supes just transformed into this new, monstrous being. That means that some poor villain, very foolishly, made him angry. We don’t think they’ll like this Superman when he’s angry.

Green Lantern & Nova

Here, we have two comic book entities that haven’t seen much action within the movies. The Nova Corps was featured in the first Guardians of the Galaxy movie, where their members were played by the likes of John C. Reilly and Glenn Close.

The Green Lantern Corps have been seen even less within the DCEU. Only one sole member is seen battling the forces of Apokolips during the epic flashbacks in 2017’s Justice League movie.

The awesome crossover posits what would happen if both Corps had a shared member. Choosing one of Earth’s Novas, Richard Rider, and giving him a Green Lantern power ring creates not only an awesome looking hero but one that wields some of the most incredible powers in the Multiverse.

The Joker & Iron Man

This one is really cool and very different from everything else you’ll see on this list. Instead of a drawing, it’s an action figure. However, if you take at it, there’s no denying that it is art. Like the rest of his designs, Sam Kwok created something really amazing with this Joker and Iron Man mashup.

What’s also interesting about this, is that it is the only entry where a superhero is combined with a villain. The beaten-up, spray painted aesthetic plays into the Joker’s anarchic nature.

Taking Hot Toys versions of Iron Man from Iron Man 2 and the Joker from The Dark Knight, Kwok gives the Clown Prince of Crime a little extra firepower, so he can watch the world burn.

Superman & Thor

When creating a superhero mashup, you are already a step ahead when your two subjects share common colors. Superman and Thor utilize blue, red, and yellow into their costumes, so it’s about finding the right places for them.

The creator of this particular mixture nailed it, incorporating the Man of Steel’s famous logo onto the Son of Odin’s armored chest piece. Also, the red piping and red diamond on the helmet is a terrific way to honor both heroes.

Unlike the other entries on this list, you can actually see this Superman and Thor mashup (or SuperThor as he’s called) in action. Cartoon Hooligans animated an epic battle where The Last Son of Asgard takes on “Goffu,” a Goku and Monkey D Luffy hybrid.

Batman & Black Panther

Sure, Batman shares a lot of similarities with Iron Man, but he may have even more in common with Marvel’s Black Panther. Like Bruce Wayne, T’Challa one of the wealthiest men in the entire world.

They both have allies whose purpose it is to create high-tech tools to aid them in their fight against evil. Also, they share a black color scheme that hides them from their foes.

This cat and bat hybrid cleverly mixes up the best aspects of Black Panther and the Dark Knight. It seamlessly fashions Batman’s emblem onto Panther’s chest, combining it with T’Challa’s necklace.

Other fantastic choices are the Caped Crusader’s trademark utility belt and the gold highlights throughout the costume. Finally, a cape hasn’t really worked for the King of Wakanda in the past, but here, it is a great and welcome addition.

 11. Wonder Woman & Captain Marvel

DC’s Wonder Woman was not only one of the most anticipated movies in 2017, and thankfully, it was one of the best. People seem to be just as excited for Marvel’s Captain Marvel coming out in 2019.

We are finally getting quality superhero movies starring some strong, tough as nails women. So, what better way to celebrate the two than with this crossover?

The concept, by the ridiculously talented Eric Guzman, borrows from Carol Danvers’ Mr. Marvel attire and melds it with your classic Wonder Woman outfit. Substituting Wonder Woman’s blue for Marvel’s black adds a very cool dynamic to the new character.

The bracelets over long gloves might not be the best look, but it does a good job honoring both heroes.

Batman & The Punisher

Throughout the years, the Punisher has been known to emulate other superheroes. He tried to take up the mantle of Captain America after he died at the end of the first Civil War and he successfully became the next War Machine after James Rhodes died in Civil War II.

Both of those redesigns have been incredible. They take the right elements from Frank Castle’s traditional look and merge them with the fallen hero.

If Punisher were to try to pick up Batman’s vendetta against crime, this is most likely what his outfit would look like. The best touch here would have to be the white gloves with Batman’s gauntlets.

Frank Castle would definitely feel at home in this ensemble. Bruce Wayne, however, would definitely have a problem with the trigger-happy hero masquerading as the Caped Crusader.

The Joker & Thanos

So far, a lot of these entries have made sense. Either the characters had similar powers, attitudes, or goals. This one, however, we’re still trying to put our finger on why this one was created. Maybe it’s because they both like purple? Who knows?

That being said, if this mashup were to be in any comic book or movie, both universes would be in trouble. The thought of combing Thanos’ sheer power with the unpredictability of the Joker is straight up scary.

The pupil-less white eyes and crooked grin give this hybrid an unstable appearance. Also, the flower in the lapel is a nice touch. He may be a megalomaniacal semi-god hell-bent on destroying all of life, but he’s still fancy.

Batman & Spiderman

Granted, we already pretty much had a Batman/Spiderman mashup in the late ‘90s when Batman Beyond aired on Kids’ WB. However, that was more of the Dark Knight with a Web-Slinger twist.

This photoshopped image takes the Wall Crawler and outfits him with some of Batman’s best weapons. Adding a Batman v Superman-inspired cowl with illuminating eyes and a utility belt help the two icons mesh.

Also, swapping out Spidey’s classic armpit web gliders for some leathery wings is a really fun enhancement that helps amp up the Batman side of things. All of this in front of a foggy cityscape makes the image all that more larger-than-life.

You can even watch a quick, thirteen second, breakdown of how graphic designer Masa-O Lab created his Spider-Bat here.

Darkseid & Red Skull

Another one from Eric Guzman, this time we get to see what would happen if two of the Marvel and DC’s greatest villains combined. Since Amalgam Comics already gave us the obvious choice in Thanoseid, this is a very interesting merger.

Red Skull and Darkseid are two of the greatest tacticians in their universes. They both are constantly seeking out greater power that would aid them in their quests.

Swapping out Darkseid’s stony, grey face for Red Skull’s… red skull gives this character a terrifying Skeletor-like visage. It is also a bit reminiscent of when Skull took the powers of Professor X to become Red Onslaught.

The long, militaristic jacket taken from the Hydra leader effortlessly melds with the Lord of Apokolips’ look so well that he might want to think about adopting it himself.

Shazam & Captain America

Since it can sometimes be a little bit confusing, we’re going to refer to the character that is sometimes referred to as Captain Marvel in DC Comics as Shazam. Not only is that what the hero is currently referred to in the comics, but it is what he is going to be called in the upcoming movie.

The best word to describe this creation is wholesome. It looks like it could have been taken directly from a Saturday morning cartoon. That’s not a bad thing, both Captain America and Shazam can be two of Marvel and DC’s more lighthearted characters.

This design is a fun combination of both heroes’ classic designs that date all the way back to the 1940s. The button-up jacket that changes Shazam’s colors for Cap’s is eye-catching. Also, swapping wings on the helmet for Shazam’s signature lightning bolts is a very fun, blink-and-you-miss-it touch.

Batman & Daredevil

When Bruce Wayne first decided to fight against the vile criminals that populate Gotham city, he chose to dress as a bat to strike fear into their hearts.

Some of his costumes definitely work in that department, but others, not so much. Had he decided to add a fiery red suit and couple of horns to the original design, that would have done the trick.

DeviantArt user Walfiend2 injected Batman with a healthy dose of Daredevil when he drew up this character. Dubbed “Devilbat” by its creator, this amalgamation looks like he wouldn’t have much difficulty going up against with the Kingpin or the Joker.

It’s a sleek and striking look that utilizes the best aspects of both the Dark Knight of Gotham and the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen.

Shazam & Thor

This entry might be the biggest no-brainer on the entire list. Our final Eric Guzman creation combines a god with a hero who has the abilities six gods. We’re talking about Thor and Shazam.

This character, in particular, is called Thunder God, and for obvious reasons. Both Shazam and Thor are known for their love of hurling a lightning bolt or two.

The design itself is a very interesting take, looking like an armored version of Shazam’s getup that hasn’t changed since the 1940s. The use of electricity throughout gives it a much-needed powerful touch.

Fun fact: Thor and Shazam battled each other during the 1996 DC vs. Marvel Comics epic crossover. Thor managed to come out on top after intercepting Shazam’s lightning bolt with Mjolnir.

The Flash & Iron Man

A lot of folks complained that the Flash’s costume in Justice League relied too much on an armored design. Artist Finalphorm takes that idea to the next level. R

elying heavily on Tony Stark and Barry Allen sharing a color scheme, the artist slapped a lightning bolt on Iron Man’s chest and added some wings to the helmet. However, you know what? It works.

The blurry details and lightning zapping off of the character add some pretty neat effects to the image. Throughout the years, we’ve seen hero after hero upgrade their design with some battle armor.

All we’re saying is if it was good enough for Batman when he duked it out against Superman and Doomsday, then it’s good enough for the Scarlet Speedster.

The Joker & Loki

Joki? The Loker? The name doesn’t really matter, what matters is just how amazing this image is. As another creation by Nick Tam, aka Masa-O Lab, this is another super well-done photoshop.

Combing the Clown Prince of Crime with a Trickster god just makes a lot of sense. It’s actually kind of reminiscent of DC’s Emperor Joker storyline that saw the Joker obtain godlike abilities from Mr. Mxyzpltk.

With the powers of Loki, the Joker could do just about anything he’s ever imagined. Even putting his scenes back into Suicide Squad.

Taking Tom Hiddleston’s Loki from The Avengers, adding purple to the wardrobe, and putting Jared Leto’s Suicide Squad Joker face over it makes for a remarkable image. The exploding backdrop from The Dark Knight amplifies the picture, and the playing cards scattered throughout drives it all home.

Justice League & Avengers

To bring it all home, we bring you a mashup of both universes’ most powerful teams: The Justice League and the Avengers. With five heroes, this design uses ten different heroes to make one brand new team.

They may not have the most original names, but the designs are still incredible. Going clockwise, we have Asgardian Chick (Thor and Hawkgirl), She-Woman (She-Hulk and Wonder Woman), Captainman (Captain America and Superman), Iron Bat (Iron Man and Batman), and Speederman (Spiderman and the Flash).

Sure, we haven’t seen Hawkgirl or She-Hulk in the movies yet, but with the way these movies are churned out year after year, we’re certain we’ll see them soon. With the way Disney is currently gobbling up their competition, it wouldn’t be surprising if we were to see a movie involving characters like this sometime in the future.
