2018 was the year a bunch of Marvel Television series was canceled. However, the biggest loss was Netflix's Daredevil. The series, set in Hell's Kitchen, took fans to a darker corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while still managing to remain loosely connected to the movies. It also paved the way for the other Netflix shows: Jessica JonesLuke CageIron Fist, and Punisher, which were also canceled shortly after.

Since Marvel recently got the rights back to the character in November, there are several ways they could go about reintroducing the man without fear.

A Moon Knight Cameo

Daredevil and Moon Knight

Another Disney+ series that is coming out is one centering on a character that is similar to Daredevil: Moon Knight. Both are street-level heroes that are extremely religious and use their religion as the backdrop for their superhero identities.

The two have worked together in the comics before, too, so having Daredevil guest star in an episode of the new vigilante's show would be a perfect way for both of them to debut in the MCU.

A Hawkeye Cameo

When revealing details about their upcoming series, Hawkeye, it was confirmed that one of the new characters introduced in the series would be Echo, a master martial artist who is also deaf. While she and Hawkeye have a history in the comics, another character she has a connection with is Matt Murdock.

She first appeared in the Daredevil #9 comic after she was sent to kill him by her adopted father, Wilson Fisk (who convinced her that Matt was responsible for the murder of her birth father). She eventually became a hero and the two were even romantically involved with each other for some time. They may not keep their connection in the MCU but if Echo happens to mention him, it would be a cool easter egg.

A She-Hulk Cameo

One of the many other Marvel Studios series that was announced to be coming to Disney+ was one centered around Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk. Both Jennifer and Matt have a lot in common since they are both lawyers that moonlight as superheroes and have even faced each other in court in the comics.

Since She-Hulk is going to be a courtroom comedy, it would make sense if she crossed paths with Matt on the show. Fans would get a kick out of seeing the two face off against each other in a case or even fight alongside each other as heroes, even if it's just for an episode.

New Series

The less popular but most likely way the MCU could approach this is by completely rebooting the Daredevil series with a new story. If Marvel did this, they would probably recast rather than use the actors from the old series to avoid confusion. This would take some getting used to since Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio's portrayal of Matt Murdock and Kingpin have become the definitive versions of the character.

There is also the concern that the series won't be able to explore the mature topics and themes if the new show is under the Disney+ banner but knowing how dark some of the Marvel movies have gotten, it likely wouldn't be an issue.

A Fourth Season

Daredevil In Front Of His Suit

Based on the #savedaredevil campaign, the method most fans would like to see the MCU go with would be to continue the story that was started in the Netflix series rather than rebooting, especially since it means they could continue to use the show's stellar cast.

Even though the show's final season ended on a relatively happy note, with Wilson Fisk going to prison and Karen, Foggy, and Matt happily together, there is still plenty of the character's story left to explore. The show's creator, Erik Oleson, confirmed that he had a 4th season planned out and had pitched it before the series officially ended so there's a chance we could see that vision on Hulu or even Disney+.

Spider-Man 3

Charlie Cox as Daredevil and Tom Holland as Spider-Man

At the end of Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter Parker had his superhero identity revealed to the world and was framed for murder by Mysterio, so it's likely that he's going to need a lawyer to help him clear his name. While it's possible that he will end up being represented by Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk, others have been hoping that it will be Matt Murdock in the web-slinger's corner.

Many fans have been petitioning for the two to crossover for years so this might be the perfect opportunity. The general audience wouldn't need to be familiar with the Netflix series to understand the character and those who are fans of the series would be ecstatic to see a fan-favorite return.

A Solo Movie

Out of all of the previous Marvel television characters, Matt Murdock is the most capable of carrying his own franchise. Instead of giving him a show, they could do what they have done for the other big name heroes and give the character his own movie trilogy or at least a solo movie to start off.

While many viewers enjoy the long-form storytelling that can come from a series, exploring the character in a high budget project could also be a win for fans of the character.

Post-Credit Scene

Since the beginning of the franchise, post-credits scenes have been used to tease or introduce new characters in the MCU. The best examples being Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver at the end of Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Thor's hammer being shown at the end of Iron Man 2, and Captain Marvel returning to Earth at the end of Avengers: Infinity War.

Rather than having Daredevil return by giving him a solo project, they could tease the character after the credits have finished rolling on one of the many upcoming phase 4 movies to get fans excited. They wouldn't even have to show Matt, they could simply show the suit before bringing him in properly.

Background Cameo

Instead of having the character fully show up, for the time being, they could have the character operate in the background of the universe. Other major characters could reference him or there could be stories on the TV talking about him.

Marvel Studios could approach it almost like how the wider MCU was addressed on the TV shows where, although the major characters like Captain America and Iron Man were never shown, they still felt a part of the same world. This could serve as a temporary way to introduce the character since they would eventually have to figure out a better way to incorporate him into the story.

A Defenders Project

Rather than reintroducing the character by himself, another thing the MCU could do is bring all of the Netflix heroes into the main MCU at once. They could either do this with a second season of the Defenders series or a movie dedicated to the team. However, doing this does run the risk of introducing too many new heroes at once and not giving each character enough screen time to be fleshed out.
