The MCU is one of the most successful franchises of all time. With more than 20 movies and multiple TV shows under its belt, the universe shows no signs of slowing down. It has thousands of fans and plenty of amazing characters, both superheroes, and villains.

But it's important to point out that the MCU hasn't always been so nice to its characters. Some of them died, some came back but not all. And even those who survived had sometimes gone through horrible experiences. Even though the lives of some characters are already over, they didn't always get what they would have deserved.

Got A Fitting Ending: Thanos

Thanos

Thanos is one of the best villains of the entire MCU... and also the one whose plan actually succeeded, for a time, anyway. Thanos got what he deserved when the heroes killed him - not once but twice.

The first time, they took down the Thanos who caused the Snap, and the second time, they faced his younger version from 2014. Not every villain got punished for his deeds the way they would have deserved, but that didn't happen with Thanos.

Deserved Better: Black Widow

Black Widow's death on Vormir in Avengers Endgame

Black Widow never had it easy in the MCU - and her life in general. She went through traumatic experiences that formed her into the hero she became. But she didn't get the happiness she deserved.

She was good at her job but seemed lonely and most of her relationships ended up in failure. What's even worse, she died young when she sacrificed her life on Vormir. And even though she'll be coming back in her solo movie Black Widow, it will be a prequel so she's still dead at this point in time.

Got A Fitting Ending: Iron Man

Iron Man's death in Avengers Endgame

It's true that Iron Man's death was tragic and left many fans upset. But he at least had a complete character arc. Tony Stark started out as a careless playboy who cared very little about the world.

As time progressed, though, he became more and more heroic, saved the world multiple times. In the end, he sacrificed the chance for a happy life with his family for the possibility of defeating Thanos once and for all - by inventing time travel. Tony may have died, but he did so with the awareness that his journey was complete now and the world was a better place.

Deserved Better: Quicksilver

Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver and Elizabeth Olsen as Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron

Quicksilver sacrificed his life to save Hawkeye in Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015). And while it was a nice gesture from him, it also felt a bit premature. He still might have achieved a lot, considering his unique set of skills - there are plenty of strong superheroes in the MCU but no one as fast.

But the creators seemed not to know what to do with the speedster so they killed him off instead and left his sister Wanda alone. Scarlet Witch herself could also be in this category, considering the tragic loss first of her parents, brother, and then Vision.

Got A Fitting Ending: Captain America

Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) and Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell) in Avengers: Endgame

Some people considered the fact that Captain America went back in time a selfish move on his side. But after everything he's been through, Steve Rogers deserved a happy ending with the love of his life, Peggy Carter.

Captain America was a man out of time and leaving his past behind, starting a new life in a strange world wasn't easy for him. He had to face both the loss of his old friends and Peggy, not to mention the failure of Thanos's victory. So when all was said and done, Steve took Tony's advice and decided to finally stop fighting.

Deserved Better: Thor's Family

Frigga and Odin

Thor himself didn't have it easy but it's the rest of his close family that truly deserved better in the MCU. Odin died, but at least he wasn't alone. However, there's also Loki whom Thanos killed in Avengers: Infinity War (2018) - just when it looked like Loki and Thor could finally reconcile for good.

And the worst of all is Frigga's case - Thor's mom and Odin's wife of many years was killed by Malekith in Thor: The Dark World (2013). It's a good thing Thor found a second family in The Avengers, and later in the Guardians of the Galaxy.

Got A Fitting Ending: Falcon

Steve Rogers gives Sam Wilson the Captain America shield in Avengers: Endgame

Sam Wilson aka Falcon will be continuing in the MCU so it's unclear where will his road lead him. But he's done well for himself. Sam's a war veteran, just like Steve, something that brought the two men closer, helped them forge their friendship. Sam has a strong sense of justice and always wants to help.

He might not be super-powered like Steve or even Bucky, but he means well - and becoming the new Captain America is something he deserves. What's more, it also corresponds with the comics where Sam took on the role as well.

Deserved Better: Liz Toomes (And Her Mom)

Liz smiles at Peter at school in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

Peter Parker is now happily dating MJ but Liz Toomes was his first crush. And she seemed to have liked him in return - otherwise, she wouldn't have agreed to go to Homecoming with Peter. Liz was sweet, intelligent, and ambitious, as she demonstrated by caring about her team's result at the Decathlon contest.

But she and her mom decided to move away when her dad was imprisoned since he was the villain known as the Vulture. Liz hasn't appeared in the MCU again and she didn't deserve to both lose her dad and her friends since she had to move away and leave her school.

Got A Fitting Ending: Hawkeye

Hawkeye family

Hawkeye has always been a side superhero in the MCU - despite the fact that he was one of the founding members of the Avengers in this universe. He even never got his solo film as everybody else did, Black Widow's upcoming film included.

But as far as his life is concerned, he didn't do so bad. Hawkeye lost his whole family as a result of the Snap, which led to him going on a dark path. Hulk luckily later reversed the Snap and Hawkeye got to reunite with his wife and children, and finally got to enjoy the family life he had to put on hold.

Deserved Better: Jessica Jones

Jessica Jones

Finally, there's also the case of Jessica Jones. She never appeared in the films but her story is still tied to it. Jessica had to face many challenges - from the death of her family to the abuse at the hands of Kilgrave - and she didn't always handle it the best way.

Jessica has the tendency to push people away and her relationship with fellow superhero Luke Cage also fell apart. Even though they're married in the comics and have a child, the show's Jessica remained alone in the end - after even her best friend Trish ended up getting locked up.
