While fans enjoy Jennifer Walter's weekly run of breaking the fourth wall in She-Hulk, Wong's latest appearance has made it more entertaining than ever - even Jennifer admits Wong is beloved by fans in the MCU. The hype train behind Wong has been unexpected, considering the now Sorcerer Supreme takes his practice in the mystic arts very seriously. Yet, he has always stolen the show in some humorous way, particularly in extending his knowledge of pop culture.

Of course, Wong isn't the only MCU side character who became an unlikely favorite with fans. Fans have appreciated many side characters for their unexpected comedic timing with the likes of Korg and Luis, but even some favorites have been villains who spoke the truth.

Maria Hill

It’s a mystery why Marvel left Maria Hill out of Captain America: Civil War after including her in the original film and The Winter Soldier, especially given fans’ overwhelmingly positive response to her character.

Her badass exterior, mixed with moral benevolence and extensive intelligence, not only earned Hill the spot of Nick Fury’s trusted right-hand woman but proved that she is more of a successor to Nick Fury. Thankfully, Colbie Smulders is set to reprise her role as Maria Hill in the Secret Invasion series in 2023, finally bringing her back into the spotlight.

Darcy Lewis

Kat Dennings as Darcy Lewis

The wise-cracking Darcy Lewis, aka Jane Foster’s sassy intern, has debatably stolen the spotlight from her boss at this point. It’s a good thing she won’t be fired for it since she has become an icon to fans everywhere, with some of the best quotes in the MCU.

Her surprise appearance in WandaVision stoked the show’s massive fanbase, filling the Darcy-shaped hole in their hearts and revealing that she had gotten her Ph.D. during her absence. What makes Darcy special to Marvel watchers is her infectious zaniness and charismatic critiques of the strangeness of the superhero universe (but mostly of Thor himself).

Drax

Drax from Guardians of the Galaxy.

Drax is a character that won over the audience with his literalness, leading to his own confusion when faced with the metaphoric expressions and others' sarcasm. Though he may not be the smartest character in the MCU and doesn't talk much, he is a great warrior, who brings the best one-liners along with him.

Taking everything at face value may be one of his only and most comical weaknesses, but Drax the Destroyer isn’t without his soft, insightful side. This is seen clearly in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 when he is describing his notion of love to Mantis and reminiscing about his innocent daughter, who was tragically murdered by Ronan the Accuser. Due to these many layers within his character, Drax has easily become a fan favorite.

Harold “Happy” Hogan

The Head of Security of Stark Industries, Tony Stark’s closest friend and mentor of Tom Holland’s Spider-Man is yet another unexpected fan favorite in the MCU. Happy Hogan is a source of comedy from as far back as the original Iron Man movies, bringing seriously funny and awkward moments.

The once-bodyguard remains overzealous and begins to care for Peter as if he were his son, which becomes even more amusing after Happy reveals his love for Aunt May. Comicality isn’t his only forte, as he has a sensible side by being the support network for many. Avengers: Endgame exemplified this when he sits with Iron Man’s daughter after Stark’s funeral in a highly sentimental scene. His Dad-like mannerisms and caring nature are certainly what landed him fans' love.

Valkyrie

As the king of New Asgard and one of Thor’s closest friends post-Thor: Ragnarok, Valkyrie has continued to grow in popularity since her debut for her stoicism and independence.

Her first impression isn’t all she is loved for, especially when she proves her badassery, leaping and taking out one by one of Grandmaster’s ships. Now, she is on track to become a well-deserved main protagonist in future films, where her heroic adventures can be explored further as she deals with her injury from the end of Thor: Love and Thunder and her new responsibilities as king.

Wong

Wong talks to Doctor Strange in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness

After stealing the show in Doctor Strange, especially when he refused to bow to him, Wong has remained in the hearts of most Marvel fans. He is one of the few characters in the MCU to tie several films together by making cameos, such as Shang-Chi and She-Hulk.

Despite the magical man’s short appearances, he has managed to be increasingly memorable with each of his pursuits. With his laughter-inducing clever wit, a strong sense of duty, and immense power, Wong shows off the sarcastic wisdom that MCU fans have come to adore. In fact, his very presence is what promises the eventual reconnection of the Multiverse Saga as the multiverse becomes a dire concern.

Yondu

The leader of the Ravagers and Star-Lord's adoptive father, Yondu may not be the greatest role model. But, his gritty wit, fantastic one-liners, and multi-faceted personality have won viewers' attention with each of his appearances.

Yondu is a dodgy and brash space pirate with a story arc that develops beautifully by the end of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, showcasing his love for Peter Quill with the ultimate sacrifice. Despite his extremely questionable parenting skills and bad temper, he has a heart made of gold that won over the fan-base quickly.

Killmonger

Killmonger arrives in Wakanda in Black Panther

Killmonger remains one of the most sympathetic antagonists in the MCU, with Michael B. Jordon giving it all in his portrayal. His ideology may be extreme and cut-throat, but his motive is as undeniable as it is logical, fueling his popularity among fans.

Due to his rough life, Killmonger became vengeful and had plans to use Wakandan weapons to stop the oppression of Black people across the world. Though his goals are menacing and morally wrong, he spoke the truth about the sad and tragic realities regarding racial inequality worldwide. Hence, Erik has become one of the most favorite villains because he was a complex character with the passion and intensity to do what he felt was right - even if his solution wasn't the most justifiable approach.

Luis

An image of Luis smiling at someone off screen in Ant-Man

The one character that stole the show in both Ant-Man movies (other than Scott Lang himself) was none other than Luis, Scott’s former prison cellmate and close friend. His lovable, childish smile and loyalty to his buddy is heartwarming to say the least, not to mention that he's one of the funniest MCU characters ever.

His boisterous and endearing traits make his slow storytelling (despite his fast talking) immeasurable levels of hilarity, especially with Scott’s insistent interruptions, attempting to make Luis get to his point faster. It’s easy to see how closely knit the two are and why fans can barely wait for their return in Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania.

Korg

Korg greets Thor for the first time in Thor: Ragnarok

Korg's popularity cannot be understated, especially providing his own funny narrations about the events in Thor: Love and Thunder. Of course, the rock alien from Kronan immediately stole the hearts of Marvel fans with the story of his revolution failing because he “forgot to print enough pamphlets.” Thus, what really sets him apart from the rest is his uniqueness and fun, unforgettable quotes.

Korg's humor is not the only reason that fans have come to appreciate him. On top of his comedic delivery, he is one of the most loyal characters to Thor, going on every dangerous mission with him. These elements did not go unnoticed by fans, and these moments validate why Korg has become an unlikely favorite with no faults.
