If Peggy Carter, AKA Captain Carter, received a spinoff in the MCU after her appearances in What If...? and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, four major Marvel mistakes could be undone. Hayley Atwell debuted as Peggy Carter in 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger as the steadfast British MI6 Agent turned member of the Strategic Scientific Reserve and love interest of Steve Rogers, a.k.a. Captain America, during WWII. While Peggy has been a staple of Captain America stories in the MCU, Phase 4 saw her variants become superheroes in their own rights, with at least two versions assuming the moniker of Captain Carter after taking the super-soldier serum in Rogers' place.

In recent years, Marvel Studios has been embracing the spinoff, with the likes of Agatha: Coven of Chaos, Vision Quest, Echo, and Marvel Zombies all in production as spinoffs of various MCU Phase 4 projects. However, if there's one character who perhaps deserves a spinoff more than most, it's Captain Carter, who quickly became one of the MCU's Phase 4's most popular characters after her appearance in the animated What If...?. Despite being one of the MCU's longest-running characters, Peggy Carter never managed to achieve main character status, but a Captain Carter spinoff could gloss over the mistakes that Marvel Studios has already made with the exciting new character. 4 A Captain Carter Spinoff Could Make Up For Agent Carter's Cancelation

After Hayley Atwell's appearances as Peggy Carter in Captain America: The First Avenger and the 2013 One Shot Agent Carter, Marvel Television developed a spinoff series putting Peggy front-and-center. Agent Carter detailed Peggy's life as a secret agent while also dealing with the struggles of living as a single woman in the 1940s in the aftermath of Steve Rogers' apparent death. Despite Agent Carter receiving a positive response from its audiences and gaining a cult following that remains dedicated to this day, the series was canceled by ABC after its second season, effectively ending Peggy's MCU journey after her death in Captain America: Civil War.

Agent Carter's cancelation came as a shock to many, and although Peggy Carter did make brief appearances in subsequent MCU projects, none saw her be put back in the spotlight. A Captain Carter spinoff would be the perfect continuation of her story in the MCU's Multiverse Saga, whether that be in animated form following on from What If...?, or in live-action either telling the story of Earth-838's Captain Carter or a completely different variant of the superhero. There's still a lot to uncover in Carter's story that Agent Carter never had the opportunity to explore, but a Captain Carter spinoff could dig much deeper.

3 Captain Carter Deserved Better Than Being Cut In Half By Scarlet Witch

Captain Carter made her live-action debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness as a member of Earth-838's Illuminati. Doctor Strange comes face-to-face with Carter, introduced as the first Avenger in a timeline that supposedly followed a similar trajectory to What If...?, where Carter was given the super-soldier serum instead of Steve Rogers. In the battle against the dream-walking Scarlet Witch, Captain Carter joins her Illuminati teammates in being killed by the corrupted Avenger. Where Reed Richards is turned to spaghetti, Captain Marvel is crushed by a falling statue, and Professor X is killed in Wanda's mind-scape, Captain Carter ends up being cut in half with her own shield.

After the release of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, Hayley Atwell spoke to Digital Spy about her time playing various incarnations of Peggy Carter in the MCU. While expressing how much she learned throughout her time with Marvel Studios, she also mentioned that being cut in half in Multiverse of Madness wasn't what she wanted for Captain Carter, stating that, "[she] would definitely like her to have more to do." Aside from suggesting that Atwell would probably be receptive to a Captain Carter spinoff, it cements the fact that Captain Carter deserved more in Multiverse of Madness, which is something that a Captain Carter spinoff could provide.

2 Captain Carter Spinoff Can Give Her The Live-Action Future She Needs

hayley atwell as captain carter in doctor strange in the multiverse of madness

Marvel Studios seems dedicated to developing Captain Carter's story in future seasons of What If...?, even going so far to mention that a Captain Carter-centric episode would be featured in each season of the animated Disney+ series, but this perhaps isn't enough for a character of such promise. Agent Carter received huge amounts of praise from audiences for delving into Peggy Carter's life, and that series focused on a variant without the super-soldier serum, so a live-action project focused on a super-powered Captain Carter would certainly get the audience vote.

This would also mean that a considerable amount of space would be cleared up in future What If...? seasons, allowing even more unusual and extraordinary realities to be explored rather than always coming back to one story focused on Captain Carter. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness gave audiences a glimpse of how formidable a live-action Captain Carter could be, so seeing Atwell suit up as the superhero in future live-action projects would make for a spectacular viewing experience. This could be along the same lines as The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and even She-Hulk: Attorney at Law, since Captain Carter would be the MCU's newest female superhero.

1 A Captain Carter Spinoff Can Finally Make Peggy A True MCU Main Character

Aside from Agent Carter, Peggy Carter was always featured as a secondary character in the MCU, often connected to Captain America stories, leading up to she and Steve Rogers finally finding happiness together at the end of Avengers: Endgame. However, now that Captain Carter has been introduced into the MCU, it's time for Peggy to step up as a main character in her own right, and a Captain Carter spinoff would be the perfect way to bring her into the spotlight. Hayley Atwell certainly has the presence to make a Captain Carter-centric storyline captivating, and this project could fit seamlessly into the MCU's Multiverse Saga.

With the MCU's Phases 5 and 6 set to expand on the concept of the Multiverse in the lead-up to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and Avengers: Secret Wars, the franchise could do with more Multiversal heroes joining Earth's Mightiest Heroes in the main MCU continuity. Captain Carter has been the hero most prominently featured in What If...?, the leader of the Guardians of the Multiverse, and a member of the Illuminati on Earth-838, so there may be no better candidate. It's unclear how Captain Carter will develop in future MCU projects, but a spinoff would be the best way to solidify her as an MCU mainstay.
