Out of all the heroes in the MCU, Steve Rogers, aka Captain America, seems like he would make for the best friend. As a member of the Avengers, Steve has always been loyal and looked out for his teammates at all times. Not surprisingly, he has developed a number of great friendships over the course of the MCU.

Some of these bonds have formed out of saving the world together while others seem to be more about Steve connecting on a personal level. These friendships have resulted in funny and heartwarming relationships that are among the most important in the MCU.

Scott Lang

Scott Lang meets Steve Rogers in Captain America: Civil War

It's fair to say that the admiration might be a little one-sided in the friendship between Steve Rogers and Scott Lang. Understandably, Scott is starstruck when he first meets Steve and he never really gets over the fact that they are working together.

Steve is impressed enough with Scott to recruit him to his team in Captain America: Civil War. And when Scott returns from the Quantum Realm in Avengers: Endgame, he immediately seeks Steve out. Though Scott might make things awkward at times, these two have come to rely on each other.

T'Challa

Black Panther Infinity War

Steve and T'Challa first meet on the opposite side of a fight when T'Challa assumes Bucky Barnes killed his father. However, as an honorable man, T'Challa admits when he is wrong and tries to make things right.

Much of Steve and T'Challa's bond happens on the battlefield, such as when they run into battle together in Avengers: Infinity War. Though Steve is usually the one who comes to the rescue, T'Challa has been his savior many times. The nod T'Challa gives to Steve after coming through the portal in Endgame speaks to the respect these men have for each other.

Thor

The relationship between Thor and Steve is really entertaining because of its rivalrous nature. Thor fancies himself as the strongest Avenger and the worthiest of the team, but there is the sense that he is somewhat threatened by Steve.

From being worried about Steve lifting Mjolnir to suggesting Steve copied Thor's beard, it sometimes feels like Thor is the older brother of this relationship. While some Avengers inevitably get along better than others, there is a feeling that Thor and Steve could really be friends outside of their world-saving antics.

Wanda Maximoff

Scarlet Witch betrays Ultron using her powers in Age of Ultron

Wanda is yet another character whom Steve first met as an enemy. She was a Hydra agent who wanted to tear apart the Avengers. However, Steve understands Wanda's perspective and even after she worked with Ultron, he accepts her to the team.

Once she does prove herself to be a hero, Steve becomes very protective of Wanda. He comforts her after the disaster in Lagos and stands up for her when others see her as a threat. Wanda is a prime example of how Steve is able to see the good in others.

Sharon Carter

Despite their more complicated relationship, it is fair to say that Sharon is more of a friend to Steve than a romantic partner. Their brief romantic moment is uncharacteristically selfish for Captain America, but it is clear Peggy Carter is the one he loved all along.

However, Sharon provides reliable and loyal support for Steve. She always trusts him to do the right thing which is why she is willing to break the law to help him so many times. And while she might not have superpowers, Sharon was always someone Steve could call for help.

Howard Stark

Given how complicated Steve's relationship with Tony has been, it's funny that Steve is such good friends with Tony's father. Howard Stark is instrumental in the birth of Captain America and even gives him his iconic shield, but he also remains by his side as a friend to Steve Rogers.

Howard is like a cool and hip friend who teaches Steve about the world and even gives him advice on women. It's unique in the way that Howard truly admires Steve but Steve seems to look up to Howard as well.

Tony Stark

The relationship between Steve and Tony is one of the best in the MCU and a large part of that is because they are not always best friends. When they first meet, it doesn't take long for these two to get on each other's nerves, but they also quickly learn to respect one another as heroes.

Both Steve and Tony make mistakes, which leads to their falling out, but they also know to turn to each other when they need help. Once Avengers: Endgame comes around, Steve and Tony are willing to trust each other again and it is very much their bond as allies that saves the day.

Natasha Romanoff

When Natasha Romanoff is introduced in the MCU, she doesn't seem like the type of person who lets other people get close to her. However, she and Steve do seem to become natural allies, especially when on the battlefield together.

It is in Captain America: The Winter Soldier when their friendship really starts to develop. They trust each other when there is no one left to trust and Natasha joins Steve on the run. She also begins to show her softer side with him, comforting him after Peggy's death.

Sam Wilson

While Steve and Bucky were already friends before the events of Captain America: The First Avenger, it is fun to see the relationship between Steve and Sam grow throughout the MCU. From their first meeting as Steve teases Sam with his impressive running, these two felt like lifelong buddies.

When Steve has to deal with Bucky's reappearance, Sam is there to help him through it the whole way. Sam is a very loyal friend and follows Steve into battle many times. It is not surprising that Steve sees Sam as fit to carry on his shield.

Bucky Barnes

As charming as the romance between Steve and Peggy is, it seems like Bucky Barnes is the most important person in Steve's life. Long before Steve becomes Captain America, Bucky is there to stand up for him and help him during the tough times.

Once Steve has the power of a super soldier, he is the one looking out for Bucky. He saves his life during WWII, refuses to give up on him when he becomes the Winter Soldier, and is willing to dismantle the Avengers to keep Bucky safe. It is a tragic yet beautiful friendship that fans understandably love.
