The Marvel Cinematic Universe makes a habit of pitting the individual Avengers against powerful supervillains. However, Earth's Mightiest Heroes aren't always exercising their powers responsibly, often coming to blows with one another over petty squabbles that leave plenty of destruction in their wake.

Over the last fourteen years of films, various Avengers have engaged in combat with one another on numerous occasions. While these fights vary in size and scope, the winner of each dictates the future of the story and grants bragging rights to whichever Avenger should be so lucky.

Iron Man Vs. War Machine

War Machine vs Iron Man

Iron Man 2 featured many major plotlines that would later tie into the larger MCU, not the least of which included James Rhodes becoming the War Machine. Rhodey first uses his iconic suit of armor after Tony Stark drunkenly takes things too far at a party in his mansion. The War Machine steps in to take Tony down before he gets someone hurt.

The two armor-clad heroes fought to a standstill and, though the battle ends with War Machine escaping with the suit without either hero coming to a definitive victory, it seems as though Rhodey had the upper hand, having accomplished his goal of protecting the partygoers.

The Big Three

Iron Man Thor and Captain America in The Avengers

It is almost a requirement for major superheroes to battle one another upon their first meeting, especially in the case of the original Avengers. When Thor first encounters Captain America and Iron Man in The Avengers, he is mistaken for a hostile, leading to an all-out brawl between the heroes that would later become known as the Big Three Avengers.

This fight is truly one of the greatest brawls between Avengers, as each is pushed to their absolute limit. The battle ends without a true victor, but with all three standing in awe of the incredible display of power that they each contributed to, with the terrain around them utterly scorched.

Thor Vs. The Hulk (Part 1)

Hulk vs Thor Avengers 2012

Like many other members of the original team, the Hulk has trouble getting along with the other Avengers. This proves especially true in the first Avengers movie, wherein he goes on a rampage aboard the helicarrier after it is attacked by Loki. Thor is left as the last line of defense against the Hulk, seeking to keep his new teammate from causing future damage to their aircraft.

This scene establishes the rivalry between Thor and Hulk, two heroes who deserve even more screen time together in the MCU. Though Thor gets some solid hits in, the Hulk can best be the god of thunder, only relenting when he is distracted by a barrage of fire from the nearby fighter pilots aiming to stop his rampage.

Iron Man Vs. The Hulk

Hulk punches Hulkbuster in Avengers: Age of Ultron

Though Hulk found a way to work with the other Avengers by the time of the events depicted in Avengers: Age of Ultron, he wasn't prepared for a mental attack from the Scarlet Witch. After suffering under Wanda's bewitching powers Hulk goes on a rampage through Johannesburg, forcing Tony Stark to attempt to stop him while using his new Hulkbuster armor.

The Hulk pushes Iron Man to his limits in this battle, as the latter hero desperately tries to stop his friend from hurting any innocent people. Iron Man eventually manages to knock Hulk out after smashing his body through a building and delivering the final punch to the jaw that allows Bruce Banner to reclaim control of his body.

Ant-Man Vs. Falcon

Scott Lang fights Sam Wilson in Ant-Man

Scott Lang went through a trial by fire to fully settle into his new identity as Ant-Man. The original Ant-Man film saw Lang break into the Avengers Facility in upstate New York to steal an important piece of equipment. There, he is confronted by Sam Wilson, the Falcon, who attempts to keep him from escaping.

After a lengthy duel, Ant-Man manages to incapacitate Falcon after shrinking down and sneaking inside his opponent's wingsuit, ripping out crucial wiring that grounds him. Ant-Man manages to escape, evidently having made a big enough impression for the Avenger to later recruit him for Cap's team in Civil War.

The Civil War

The airport battle in Captain America Civil War

The most famous clash of superheroes is in Captain America: Civil Waran adaptation of the "Civil War" comic storyline that could have been expanded upon for the MCU. Unable to agree on the institution of the Sokovia Accords or the fate of Bucky Barnes, two factions form among the Avengers, led by Iron Man and Captain America, which come to blows at an airport in Germany.

This fight saw heroes battle each other like never before and ended with losses on both sides. Though Captain America and Bucky were able to escape, the rest of their team was captured and taken prisoner aboard the Raft. Meanwhile, despite the apparent victory, Tony's team still suffered the paralyzing injury of James Rhodes, who very nearly died in the aftermath of the battle.

Iron Man Vs. Captain America

Captain America and Iron Man face off in Civil War.

The finale of Civil War sees an emotional brawl between longtime frenemies Iron Man and Captain America after it is revealed that Captain Rogers was aware of who murdered Tony's parents. Overcome with grief and feeling betrayed, Tony engages Cap in a hand-to-hand fight.

After getting assistance from Bucky, Cap manages to take out Iron Man's computer system, leaving him vulnerable to attack. Steve manages to knock Tony to the ground, nearly killing him in his rage. Though Steve manages to achieve physical victory, Tony reminds him that he no longer has the moral high ground, forging a stalemate in the ongoing superhero civil war.

Thor Vs. Hulk (Part 2)

Thor and Hulk fight in Thor: Ragnarok

Thor and Hulk receive a rematch after their initial brawl aboard the helicarrier, this time in Thor: Ragnarok. The two Avengers reunite on the planet Sakaar, where they are forced to battle one another in a gladiatorial tournament hosted by the Grandmaster.

The gladiator match between Thor and Hulk saw the god of thunder unlock new abilities that gave him a fighting chance against his rageful foe, powers which will likely come in handy in Love and Thunder, one of the summer's most exciting films. However, while Thor managed to briefly gain the upper hand, the Grandmaster intervened for his reigning champion, incapacitating Thor and leaving him vulnerable to the Hulk's final smash.

Spider-Man Vs. Doctor Strange

Doctor Strange blasting away Spider-Man.

The events of Spider-Man: No Way Home created a rift between the titular superhero and Doctor Strange. After disagreeing on what to do about the villainous visitors from another dimension, Spider-Man and Doctor Strange engage in a fight that crosses dimensions and pushes both to their limits.

Though Doctor Strange appeared to have the upper hand after entering the Mirror Dimension, Spider-Man still had one last trick up his sleeve. Using his intimate knowledge of geometry, Spider-Man managed to ensnare Strange in webbing, leaving him stranded for hours and proving that the MCU has perfectly adapted Spider-Man's intelligence from his comic book counterpart.

Doctor Strange Vs. Scarlet Witch

Doctor strange 2 continues bad Villain trend scarlet witch

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is unique among other entries in the MCU in that it featured one of the Avengers as an all-out villain. After being corrupted by the Darkhold, the Scarlet Witch seeks to find and kill the young hero America Chavez to attain her powers, leading to a drawn-out war between herself and the Masters of the Mystic Arts, including Doctor Strange himself.

During their ongoing struggle, it becomes abundantly clear that Strange doesn't stand a chance against the more powerful Scarlet Witch. He is only able to attain victory by allowing someone else to "hold the knife," allowing America Chavez her time to shine. Wanda Maximoff is eventually defeated, but it took more than one opponent to take down the Scarlet Witch.
