When the Marvel Cinematic Universe officially came together and brought Earth's mightiest heroes to the big screen in 2012's The Avengers, it marked a major moment in movie history. Never before had so many iconic comic book characters been shown together on this kind of massive scale. Although the action was exciting, what drew fans in were the characters.

Since then, the Avengers have grown on the big screen but what remains is that these are people who the audience loves watching do almost anything. Even when they're simply talking to each other, it's engaging because of their huge personalities that shine through in their dialogue.

Peter Parker/Spider-Man

"I'd Rather Just Stay On The Ground For A Little While. Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man."

When he made his debut in the MCU, all Peter Parker wanted to do was be a member of the Avengers. He spent a lot of 2017's Spider-Man: Homecoming trying to prove his worth but the events he goes through make him realize that he probably wasn't right about that.

So, at the end of the story, Peter said this line to Tony Stark, rejecting the offer to join the team. Though he eventually does in Avengers: Infinity War, this showed that Peter is all about helping people, even if it remains on a smaller, ground-level for the time being. He even continued down the path of wanting to be more of a normal teen in Far From Home.

Vision

"It's Alright, You Could Never Hurt Me. I Just Feel You."

The Vision that audiences see in Infinity War feels a lot different from the one who debuted in Avengers: Age of Ultron. He had become more human in his emotions and a major reason for that is his relationship with Wanda Maximoff. In fact, everything involving Vision starting with Captain America: Civil War surrounded Wanda.

Their romance was at the center of Infinity War as Vision's Mind Stone was in danger. Wanda was the only one strong enough to destroy it before Thanos got to it. Vision said this to her just before his death at her hands, explaining that due to their love, she could never truly hurt him.

Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch

"I Can't Control Their Fear, Only My Own."

Although it hadn't fully been seen at that point, Wanda Maximoff was always an extremely powerful being and likely the strongest of all of the Avengers. In Civil War, she was sidelined after accidentally hurting people but finally chose to fight against the Sokovia Accords.

As she did this, she took down Vision, who said people will always be afraid of her if she continued. Wanda responded with this line, showing that she was going to control what she could. It's an interesting line given that she lost control in WandaVision and let her chaos magic get the best of her.

Nick Fury

"I Still Believe In Heroes."

Throughout most of The Avengers, it's clear that S.H.I.E.L.D. isn't all that interested in the initiative put forth by Nick Fury. They didn't think that this blend of personalities could work together but Fury was convinced that it was the right decision and plan.

That's why this line means so much. When others were doubting the Avengers, Fury remained steadfast in his belief of what true heroes could pull off. The exploration of his relationship with Carol Danvers strengthed this and it helped showcase that his faith in the good guys is part of why Fury is such a good leader.

Clint Barton/Hawkeye

"The City Is Flying, We're Fighting An Army Of Robots, And I Have A Bow And Arrow. None Of This Makes Sense. But I'm Going Back Out There Cause It's My Job"

Hawkeye is ambushed by an Ultron Sentry in Age of Ultron

Poor Clint Barton is often the butt of the jokes when fans discuss the Avengers. It's not that he's disliked or that he's bad at his job, it's just sometimes comical that he's a human with a bow and arrow fighting amongst powerful otherwordly creatures.

That's why this is such a perfect quote to detail who he is. Hawkeye knows that he's usually out of his depth and finds himself in situations that don't make sense but he will continue to fight even if the odds are far from being in his favor. It makes him one of the bravest Avengers.

Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow

"We Don't Want To Kill You, But We Will."

Black Widow in Infinity War

Though she's kind of a woman who is more about taking action than speaking about it, there are plenty of Natasha Romanoff quotes that work to explain who she is. However, it's a somewhat throwaway line that isn't all that iconic that actually sums up a lot about who she is.

In Infinity War, Natasha quickly said this to Proxima Midnight after Corvus Glave gets stabbed. Natasha famously has a lot of "red in her ledger" having been an assassin who did terrible things. She has all of the tools to kill anyone in her path but she doesn't like doing so, especially now that she's seen as a hero.

Bruce Banner/Hulk

"I Put The Brains And The Brawn Together. And Now Look At Me. Best Of Both Worlds."

For most of his time in the MCU, Bruce Banner was trying to keep the Hulk at bay. He'd bring him out for huge battles like in New York or to fight against Thanos but the "green guy" was too unpredictable to be safe on most occasions.

The appearance of "smart Hulk" in Avengers: Endgame finally brought that storyline to its conclusion. Banner spent the five years after the Snap working on becoming an official unit with Hulk. He kept his cool and intellect while maintaining the strength of the Hulk and he had never been more confident or seemingly at peace.

Thor

"I'd Rather Be A Good Man Than A Good King."

Considering the path his character has taken in the MCU, there are almost countless comedic lines that could describe a bit of who Thor is. That being said, this line kind of sums up his entire arc from 2011's Thor through his present position in the films.

Thor is supposed to be the king of Asgard but in his first two movies, he rejects the role. Even when he reluctantly took over, as soon as they beat Thanos, he handed the position over to Valkyrie. Thor is more interested in doing and being good rather than holding a position of power.

Steve Rogers/Captain America

"I Can Do This All Day."

Captain America says I Can Do This All Day

More than his strength from the super soldier serum or anything along those lines, the most special things about Steve Rogers are his courage, good heart, and leadership abilities. Steve first uttered this line when taking a beating in an alley but refusing to give up.

He was willing to fight as long as it took, even if he was guaranteed to lose. Steve said it again at the end of his trilogy when refusing to back down against Iron Man. Although he didn't say it at the moment, Steve also embodied this before everyone returned to fight Thanos as he stood up to fight them despite being outnumbered by hundreds.

Tony Stark/Iron Man

"I Am Iron Man."

Tony Stark says I Am Iron Man.

These are arguably the most famous words in the entire MCU but it's more than just iconic. It also says everything you need to know about Tony Stark. He first said this at the end of Iron Man, forgoing the trope of heroes having secret identities and changing the game.

This worked because Tony is arrogant and wouldn't want to hide the things he did. It also helped to embody the fact that he and Iron Man are one, especially when said at the end of Iron Man 3. There's a reason this was the perfect thing for Tony to say just before using the Infinity Gauntlet.
