Marvel Cinematic Universe actor Robert Downey Jr. reveals he recently video chatted with fellow The Avengers stars Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Scarlett Johansson and Mark Ruffalo. The original six Avengers debuted over the course of Phase 1, with Downey kick-starting the entire franchise as Tony Stark in Iron Man. Johansson's Black Widow first appeared in Iron Man 2. Then, Hemsworth starred in the solo Thor movie, which also introduced Renner's Hawkeye. Evans debuted as Steve Rogers in Captain America: The First Avenger, and last of the original six to make their first appearance was Ruffalo's Hulk in The Avengers, taking over from Ed Norton.

Since Joss Whedon's 2012 movie, the six MCU stars have gone on to star in additional movies and re-team every few years for another Avengers installment. Last year, two of the original six wrapped up their tenure in the MCU with Avengers: Endgame. Downey Jr's Iron Man and Evans' Captain America reached a concluding point in their respective stories. While three of the other four are already set to return in various MCU movies or TV shows, Endgame marked the last time the original six Avengers appeared on screen. At least, unless all the actors sign on to return for another team-up. But until that's confirmed, Downey's latest tease will have to make do.

Joining director Joe Russo on Instagram Live during the Avengers: Endgame Quarantine Watch Party, Downey Jr. mentioned that he recently interfaced with his five fellow Avengers. Though he didn't reference his fellow stars by name, he was presumably referring to Evans, Hemsworth, Ruffalo, Renner and Johansson. It's unclear what exactly the video call was about, whether it was just a casual chat between friends or if they did (or are) planning to record something for Marvel fans. Downey Jr. said:

I won’t say why, but I had an occasion to be interfacing with the other five of the original six Avengers just a few days ago and after we all hung up off our Zoom-like call, I got this wave of… Yeah, and then it did feel like a year ago.

With Hollywood studios having shut down all major productions to adhere to stay at home orders amid the coronavirus pandemic, actors all across the industry have found creative ways to provide fans with new videos to keep their spirits up - and to give everyone something to do. For example, a new episode of Parks and Recreation will be released, reuniting all the show's original stars. As previously stated, it's unclear what the original Avengers stars' call was about and whether it has anything to do with new content being released, but MCU fans would no doubt love to see anything new from their favorite Marvel superheroes.

Since Downey Jr. has already mentioned the video call, hopefully it won't be long before the actor, one of his co-stars or Marvel themselves reveal what it was about. Fans may be hoping for some kind of reunion video commemorating the anniversary of one year since Avengers: Endgame's release or some kind of new in-universe content, but it's not yet known what exactly the MCU actors were talking about or whether it will be released to the public. Fans can speculate all they want and perhaps we'll have answers soon. For now, fans can at least find some joy in learning that the original six Avengers stars recently got together to chat amongst themselves, proving the relationships they built while filming these MCU movies has endured.
