From retrieving Captain America’s shield from Spider-Man to stomping along the San Francisco pier as Giant-Man, Scott Lang quickly became one of the most fascinating heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The Ant-Man series of movies may not exactly be tentpole films in the MCU like Iron Man, The Winter Soldier, or The Avengers, but they’re greatly admired by a huge number of fans. But as the character and his movies sit in the middle of the MCU pantheon in terms of how beloved they are, there are a ton of hot takes that span both ends of the spectrum.

Ant-Man’s Scenes In Civil War Were Better Than His Own Movies

Ant-Man hands the shield to Captain America in Captain America: Civil War

Besides Avengers: Endgame and his own two movies, Ant-Man also appeared in Captain America: Civil War, as he joined team Captain America to fight against Iron Man. And there are a select few who believe Ant-Man’s best scenes are in Civil War, as the execution of the Ant-Man movies fell flat to them. And while Ant-Man turning into Giant-Man was one of the biggest surprises in a movie full of them, there is an abundance of ingenious and creative scenes in both Ant-Man films, whether it’s using a flat-bed truck as a scooter or using children’s toys as lethal weapons.

The Most Unrealistic Part Of The MCU Is The House Scott Owns

Scott’s house in San Francisco in Ant-Man

Being hot take that could very well be a joke, there’s so much truth to it. Not only is it a big, beautiful house, but it’s a big, beautiful house in the middle of San Francisco, the 2nd most expensive city in the whole of the United States. The median house price in the city is over $1.4 million, and the Lang residence is clearly on the higher scale of SF housing. However, in a universe filled with aliens and talking trees, it isn’t exactly the most unrealistic thing to happen.

Scott Getting Fired From Baskin Robbins Is The Saddest Scene In The MCU

This hot take is hilarious because there are over 20 movies in the series and most of them include fan-favorite characters dying, but the user is adamant that the saddest scene of all of them is when Scott gets fired from an ice-cream store. And though the unpopular opinion might be said in jest, there is actually some weight to it.

Scott had just gotten out of jail and he was trying to do everything he could to get back on his feet again, and he was willing to work at an ice-cream chain to do so. But the user takes it to extremes by stating that they cry every time it happens, and as this was commented before the release of Endgame, god only knows how much they cried during Tony Stark’s death.

The First Movie Is Severely Underrated

One Ant-Man mega fan argues that the first movie in the series is severely underrated. They argue that its flaws are what makes the film great and what makes it stands out from the other Marvel movies. And to the user’s credit, the movie felt fresh, being that it was simply Scott’s family at risk instead of the whole world being in some alien’s crosshairs.

From locking horns with the Falcon to an entire fight that takes place in a briefcase, the first movie is full of genuinely well-crafted action scenes. And the character’s powers are so unique to any other heroes in the MCU, who simply have super strength or great combat skills.

The Ant-Man Meme Surrounding Endgame Was Never Funny

Leading up to the release of Avengers: Endgame, there was so much speculation surrounding Thanos and the internet was filled with so many well-thought-out theories. But the theory that ruled them all was the one that saw Thanos getting killed by Ant-Man in a very particular way.

It was hilarious and was the inspiration for so many memes. But not everyone found it as hysterical as it is. A select few thought it was a dumb joke, but in a sea of so many dense theories, a little bit of lightheartedness never hurt anyone.

Ant-Man And The Wasp Is The Best MCU Movie

Hope flies in her suit alongside Scott riding an ant in Ant-Man and the Wasp

There were a lot of great things about Ant-Man and the Wasp, whether it was giving hope equal footing or continuing the charming family movie tone of the first film, but one Redditor gives it way more credit than anyone else.

The user cites that it’s Paul Rudd more than anything that makes it the best, and while it’s hard to see anyone as Ant-Man other than him, most fans think the movie is flawed in other areas, such as the undercooked villain, Ghost, or playing it a little too safe. Though it’s definitely debatable that the movie is underrated, just like its predecessor, being the best movie in the 20+ film series is a massive stretch.

Edgar Wright Is Solely To Thank For How Ant-Man Turned Out

Before Peyton Reed took the reigns and made two more than solid Ant-Man movies, with a promising third entry currently in production, it was originally Edgar Wright who was at the helm of the series.

Wright was replaced during production, as he and Marvel Studios didn’t see eye to eye on every aspect of where the movie was heading, and this Redditor argues that the only good parts of the first movie are the ones that were worked on by Wright. However, though fans can guess and try to deduce who developed what, there’s no telling which scenes were definitely developed by Wright.

Ant-Man Is The Worst MCU Movie

Claiming that the movie uses two many gimmicks, this Redditor argues that Ant-Man is by far the worst movie in the whole universe. Though it might be considered underrated in the grand scheme of things when looking at the MCU filmography as a whole, it is rarely considered as the worst.

As well oiled of a machine as the MCU is, there are still some less successful movies heavily criticized by fans, whether it’s the first two Thor movies, the last two Iron Man movies, or Captain Marvel. And all of them are considered much worse than Ant-Man with lower average user scores on IMDb.

The Movies Should Have Been More Focused On Hank

Hank Pym in his car in Ant-Man

Though Paul Rudd was born to be a leading man, seasoned movie star Michael Douglas steals every scene he’s in as Hank Pym, creator of the Pym particle and the inventor of the Ant-Man outfit. As he was the very original Ant-Man in the comic books, some argue that he should have been the focus of the movie.

But more specifically, this user states that the movies should have been focused more on Hank and Jan than Scott and Hope. But it’s a strange opinion, as Ant-Man and the Wasp was very much focused on Hank and Jan, and Hank even went into the quantum realm to try to rescue her.

The Wasp Is Better Than Ant-Man At Everything

Of all of the unpopular opinions, this one is the most accurate by far. The user claims that Scott lang is massively inferior to Hope in every aspect, and there’s a lot of evidence to back that up.

It’s no wonder why Hope was getting so annoyed at Scott in the first movie when he was training to be Ant-Man, because, as clearly shown in Ant-Man and the Wasp, she is better than him at everything. In fact, it’s a wonder why Hank and Hope even keep him around, as he often gets them into trouble and isn’t particularly an expert with the suit.
