Scarlet Witch is probably much younger than most viewers of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have imagined. 31-year-old Elizabeth Olsen has been playing the comic book character since her credits cameo as Wanda Maximoff in 2014's Captain America: The Winter SoldierIn total, the actress has appeared in five MCU installments, and Wanda still has a bright future ahead in the franchise. Not only will she have a continued role on the big screen, but Scarlet Witch is set to be the focus of the upcoming Disney+ series, WandaVision. So how old is the character throughout her arc thus far?

Olsen's first starring role came in Avengers: Age of Ultron alongside fellow newcomer Aaron Taylor Johnson in the role of Pietro Maximoff. Wanda and Pietro were twins from Sokovia that joined HYDRA, acquiring separate superpowers. The pair then aligned with Ultron to target Tony Stark as an act of revenge for the bombing that killed their family years prior. The siblings later switched sides to aid the Avengers in protecting their homeland. After Pietro, aka Quicksilver, was killed, Wanda joined the Avengers under the pseudonym Scarlet Witch, making her one of the youngest members.

Wanda and Pietro's birthdate was never directly stated in the MCU, but it's still possible to gauge Scarlet Witch's age throughout her various appearances. The twins were 10-years-old when the Stark-manufactured bomb decimated their home, killing their parents. Considering Tony moved away from producing weapons in the years surrounding Iron Man, it can be assumed that Wanda and her brother were around 10 in 2008. If they were born somewhere between 1998 and 2000, Wanda would currently be between 18 and 20-years-old in the franchise.

Scarlet Witch's Age Can Be Narrowed Down Based On Key Details

Believing that Scarlet Witch is only late teens or early twenties might be a bit difficult for some viewers to accept considering Olsen is over 30. Granted, this age range actually fits in with certain evidence provided in the films. When Wanda was struggling with fighting on the frontlines in Age of Ultron, Clint Barton told her if she didn't want to help, she could "go to high school" as an alternative. Since the movie took place in 2015, the 15-17 age range would fit with Hawkeye's dialogue. In Captain America: Civil War, Steve Rogers referred to Wanda as a "kid," which was also accurate since she would have still been in her late teens in 2016.

Based on the tactic of narrowing down Wanda's age, Wanda would have remained in the 18-20 range throughout Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame. Scarlet Witch was a vital figure in the former, which took place in 2018. In the end, she fell victim to Thanos' Snap. Endgame primarily took place in 2023, but when Scarlet Witch and the others were brought back, they never aged. It's unclear how much time will have passed when Olsen reprises her role in WandaVision. Unless any time jumps occur, Wanda will be reaching her early twenties for the MCU's foreseeable future.
