Given those characteristics, period dramas might not sound like the ideal movie genre for ENTPs. But while period dramas have a reputation for being stuffy and dull, there are so many great films worth exploring so long as they are the right picks. Here are some period dramas ENTPs will love and some they will hate.

Love: Much Ado About Nothing (1993)

Denzel Washington and Kenneth Branagh in Much Ado About Nothing

ENTPs are great communicators which plays into their love of certain films. They enjoy conversing and find witty banter to be especially entertaining. Well, who knows witty banter better than William Shakespeare?

Much Ado About Nothing is Kenneth Branagh's adaptation of Shakespeare's classic comedy. It tells a story filled with misunderstandings, love, and intrigue. At the center of the story are two enemies who hold a secret affection for one another. Their back-and-forth dialogue would thrill any ENTP.

Hate: The Artist (2011)

The Artist is set in 1920s Hollywood in the final days of the silent era. The film follows a silent film star who finds his star fading as he fails to make the transition to the talking pictures and attempts to hold on to the Hollywood he knows.

Given their love of witty banter, this movie already has a big strike against it since it is a silent film. ENTPs also like to break from traditions which would make the star's desperation to cling onto the past unsympathetic to those viewers.

Love: Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

Ofelia in the woods with a book in Pan's Labyrinth

Pan's Labyrinth is Guillermo Del Toro's incredible fairy tale film set in Spain during the Spanish Civil War. The film follows a young girl named Ofelia who is taken away from the grim and dangerous world around her through a journey into an unusual fantasy world.

Ofelia has a sense of adventure and love of exploration to her. Despite the scary things she encounters, she wants to explore this world more. This is a trait common in ENTPs as they love introducing themselves to something new.

Hate: Remains Of The Day (1993)

Mr Stevens and Miss Kenton in The Remains of the Day

Remains of the Day is the kind of movie most people might think of when they think of period dramas. It stars Anthony Hopkins as the loyal head servant for an English lord during the outbreak of World War II. As the lord's sympathies for the Nazi cause comes out, the servant attempts to remain loyal.

The idea of this man going about the same daily routine for years is something ENTPs would never understand as they enjoy new experiences. Unbreaking loyalty also conflicts with their idea of keeping an open mind.

Love: The Theory Of Everything (2014)

Eddie Redmayne in The Theory of Everything looking out of the window and smiling

The Theory of Everything tells the story of Stephen Hawking's earlier life of studies and his struggles with his diagnosis of ALS. As he deals with this life-changing event and the effect it has on his marriage, Hawking continues to do ground-breaking work in physics.

ENTPs would likely find a lot of inspiration in the story of Hawking's life and his work. Like him, they also enjoy exploring new ways of approaching a subject and seeing something from a new angle.

Hate: Hidden Figures (2016)

John Glenn meets the women of Hidden Figures

Hidden Figures is another true story, this time set in the early days of the NASA program and focusing on some of its unsung heroes. The film stars Taraji P. Henson, Janelle Monae, and Octavia Spencer as three African-American women who overcame discrimination to make invaluable contributions to NASA's space missions.

Though an inspiring story, ENTPs might find it too frustrating. They prefer to keep an open mind in regard to others and hate for others to hold them back in moving forward the way people tried to hold these women back.

Love: Braveheart (1995)

mel gibson in braveheart

Braveheart may not be the most historically accurate period piece, but it is a very fun adventure. The film tells the story of William Wallace a brave and unconventional warrior who helped lead the Scottish rebellion against England.

ENTPs love the unconventional and would likely find a lot to like in Wallace as a hero. He does not let tradition rule him and finds resourceful ways to fight the war in his own way. These are all qualities ENTPs would hold dearly.

Hate: 12 Years A Slave (2013)

12 Years a Slave is a harrowing film that is also a devastating true story. It focuses on Solomon Northrup, a freeman and violinist who is kidnapped and illegally sold into slavery in the American South.

Once again, the vile ignorance of the people who allowed this to happen who not sit well with ENTPs. There is also the aspect of Solomon's creative outlet, his violin playing, being corrupted by these experiences. ENTPs place a lot of importance on creative expression.

Love: Shakespeare In Love (1998)

Shakespeare in Love with Viola de Lesseps

Shakespeare in Love is another film that tells a story with little historical fact yet manages to be an entertaining story. The movie explores the love affair between William Shakespeare and a repressed noble woman which inspires him to write Romeo and Juliet.

The exploration of the creative mind is something ENTPs would greatly appreciate and find a lot of interest in. there is also the female lead played by Gwyneth Paltrow who attempts to break free of her traditional life and pursue unconventional passions.

Hate: My Fair Lady (1964)

Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady wearing an iconic white dress

My Fair Lady is a musical classic set during the early 1900s. The film stars Audrey Hepburn as a lower-class young woman who is mentored by a snobbish businessman to be turned into a member of high society.

It is the kind of story that has been told again and again, and despite its icon status, ENTPs would find in largely disagreeable. The thought of this woman going through all this hard work only to be made more conventional and less interesting than she was would be disheartening for ENTPs.
