Johnny Depp has had many amazing movies many of which required him to take on the weirdest roles. Though many of his films were in the fantasy genre, he has also had many deep and multi-dimensional projects too that required more effort from him.

Right now, everyone is debating about whether or not the actor should stay in the Fantastic Beasts franchise. While he might not be the fan-favorite now, it's nice to look at the characters he has played in the past that made him the actor he is. Here are Johnny Depp's Characters And Who Are You Based On Your MBTI®.

ISFJ (Defender): Gilbert Grape (What's Eating Gilbert Grape)

What's Eating Gilbert Grape tells the story of the young Gilbert Grape (played by Johnny Depp) who has to care for his excessively obese mother and his mentally impaired brother (played by Leonardo DiCaprio). Suddenly, Gilbert finds his love which significantly changes everything.

Gilbert Grape is an ISFJ or Defender type. He is a protector caring for his loved ones despite wanting something more of his life. Gilbert wants to protect his family from the dangers of life and wants to make sure that everything is fine with them.

ENFP (Campaigner): Willy Wonka (Charlie and the Chocolate Factory)

2005's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is somewhat of a remake of the original and another adaptation of the book. Directed by Tim Burton, it tells the story of a poor boy called Charlie Bucket who gets a golden ticket to the famous chocolate factory. He then meets the mysterious Willy Wonka (played by Johnny Depp) who seems to like the boy.

Willy Wonka has a Campaigner personality type. He is an enthusiastic person who is quite sociable (even though he has a dark childhood). Willy is charming in his own way and loves making connections with the people he specifically invited to his factory.

ISFP (Adventurer): Sweeney Todd (Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street)

Originally a musical, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street is about a barber called Sweeney Todd (played by Johnny Depp) who murders his clients with a straight razor. Then, his accomplice Mrs. Lovett (played by Helena Bonham Carter) bakes the corpses into pies and serves them to the customers of her bakery.

Despite being such a dark character, Sweeney Todd has the ISFP personality type which makes him an artist ready to explore. He practically goes out of the frames set for him by society (while you could also say that society is the reason why his whole life had been destroyed).

ISTP (Virtuoso): Tonto (The Lone Ranger)

2013's The Lone Ranger might not have been a big success, but it is still a fun movie to watch. The story follows lawyer John Reid (played by Armie Hammer) who returns home and subsequently becomes the Lone Ranger due to the injustices he sees there. In addition to that, he befriends a Native American called Tonto (played by Johnny Depp).

Tonto is a Virtuoso. He is an experimenter and a master of all kinds of tools (or rather trying to be one). Tonto loves experimenting in different situations and finding unusual solutions to the problems he encounters.

ESFJ (Consul): Mad Hatter (Alice in Wonderland)

Mad Hatter

Johnny Depp actually played the Mad Hatter both in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland and its sequel Alice Through the Looking Glass. Both movies are adaptations of Lewis Carroll's books with the first film being somewhat of a remake of Disney's animated picture.

Mad Hatter is a Consul. He is a popular and caring person who is ready to help. His madness might be a little unsettling, but once you get to know him a little better, he turns out to be a sad person simply trying to help the protagonist and the good side win.

ESTP (Entrepreneur): Glen Lantz (A Nightmare on Elm Street)

A Nightmare on Elm Street was practically Johnny Depp's breakout role. At the same time, it was the beginning of a long-lasting horror franchise with Freddy Krueger becoming one of the most iconic horror villains of all time.

Glen Lantz is an ESTP. We might not see much of him in the movie, but from those few scenes when he does appear on the screen, you can say that he loves living on the edge which perfectly fits the Entrepreneur personality type.

ENTP (Debater): Captain Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean)

Perhaps Johnny Depp's most famous role, Captain Jack Sparrow will be an icon for ages ahead. Pirates of the Caribbean franchise follows several main characters including pirates and people who eventually become pirates.

Captain Jack Sparrow is an ENTP. He is a smart person who loves an intellectual challenge. And though Jack and Tonto might appear the same, they are actually different. Jack is riskier and has way more improvisation going on (or did he plan everything that happened to him?)

INFP (Mediator): Edward Scissorhands (Edward Scissorhands)

Edward Scissorhands Johhny Depp

Edward Scissorhands is another one of Tim Burton's films. It tells the story of Edward Scissorhands (played by Johnny Depp) who is an artificial man who wasn't finished by his creator and has blades instead of hands. He is cared for by family and falls in love with the teenage daughter Kim (played by Winona Ryder).

Edward Scissorhands is an INFP. He is an altruistic person who likes helping others probably because he had never seen any evil the world has due to living alone for so long. In any case, he is the most innocent character in the whole movie misunderstood by society.

INTP (Logician): Ichabod Crane (Sleepy Hollow)

Sleepy Hollow is a gothic horror film about the New York detective Ichabod Crane (played by Johnny Depp) who goes to a village named Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of strange murders possibly connected to the supernatural.

Barnabas Collins is an ESTJ. He is an administrator who knows how to manage people. Once he wakes up, he immediately starts working towards re-establishing his family's business and adapting to the modern world. He might be stuck in the past, but he is definitely willing to change.

ENTJ (Commander): Gellert Grindelwald (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them)

One of the most popular franchises right now, Fantastic Beasts is a prequel to the famous Harry Potter movies. Johnny Depp plays the famous wizard villain Gellert Grindelwald who wants the magical people and beings to finally come out of hiding and rule over Muggles.

Gellert Grindelwald is a Commander. He is a bold leader who has many followers. He could be considered an INTJ too, though most of his traits make him more of an ENTJ. He is willing to use any means to achieve his goals including killing both humans and wizards.
