In the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator®, the INTJ personality is one of the sixteen established personality types. INTJ is also known as "The Mastermind." These types of people are usually logical, introverted, and deeply interested in learning. But even the most academic-minded people need a good laugh from time to time.

Given their distinct traits and interests, there are a lot of good comedy movies that should satisfy all INTJs. However, like any personality, it's important to know the kinds of things they don't like as well. Here are some comedy movies INTJs will love and some they will hate.

Love: Booksmart (2019)

Booksmart is the excellent directorial debut from Olivia Wilde which came out last year. The teen comedy follows two straight-A students and best friends who, after learning their more social peers got into stellar schools as well, decide to finally have some fun on their last night in high school.

The movie is as funny and outrageous as you might expect from a teen comedy, but the two main characters should draw INTJs in. These two best friends provide intellectual conversations and companionship they and many INTJs seek in their relationships.

Hate: Knocked Up (2007)

Given their introverted nature, it can sometimes be assumed that INTJs are not great with relationships. This is not true as they simply prefer to be selective with the kind of relationships they choose, hoping to find their ideal partner.

Knocked Up is a concept that would probably be a worst-case scenario for INTJs. Seth Rogen and Katherine Heigl star as two strangers who have a one-night-stand which results in a pregnancy. This leads to them trying to force a relationship together despite being very different people.

Love: The Hangover (2009)

Stu, Alan, and Phil in a hallway in The Hangover

Before he was making edgy comic book movies, Todd Phillips was known for his gross-out, R-rated comedies like the extremely successful The Hangover. The movie follows a group of friends who wake up after a wild bachelor party in Las Vegas with no memory of the night and no sign of the groom-to-be.

The wild hijinks of the film might seem to conflict with the INTJs, but it is the mystery at the center of the film that offers some draw. INTJs love to explore patterns and puzzles so they would probably get a kick out of the search for the missing groom.

Hate: Bridesmaids (2011)

The group of Bridesmaids enter the dress store in Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids is another wedding-themed R-rated comedy, only this time, focusing on the trouble the women get up to. Kristen Wiig stars as a woman struggling to pull her own life together while serving as her best friend's maid-of-honor.

Though it is hard not to find this movie hilarious, INTJs might find it a little too stressful to enjoy. They like having plans and following through with those plans. The number of things that go terribly wrong in this movie would terrify any INTJs.

Love: Fargo (1996)

INTJs are very logical thinkers. They like to step back a view the whole situation, see all the possibilities, then come to an objective conclusion. There are not a lot of characters like this in comedies, but Fargo does provide a solid example.

Frances McDormand stars as Marge Gunderson, a friendly and intelligent police officer investigating a series of murders in her quiet community. Though she is nice to everyone she meets, she is also a good cop. She does not let her friendly demeanor distract from her seeing the possibilities in her case and getting to the truth.

Hate: Burn After Reading (2008)

Chad blackmails a CIA ex analyst in Burn After Reading

The Coen Brothers delivered another brilliant dark comedy with Burn After Reading. The movie is set in the intelligence world and centers around a collection of characters who are brought into a paranoid conspiracy.

The movie plays out like the typical paranoid political thrillers except everyone is stupid. The characters jump to conclusions, turning something simple into a massive problem without realizing how wrong they are. It's the kind of thought process that would drive INTJs mad.

Love: Stranger Than Fiction (2006)

Stranger Than Fiction is a unique and fun comedy that stars Will Ferrell as a mild-mannered insurance man who begins hearing a voice that narrates his life. The clever premise makes for an interesting and engrossing comedy story.

While some might find it concerning to hear narration of their daily life, INTJs might find it useful. They like to have a plan for everything and have organization, so they know what's coming. Narration explaining their entire life could make things a lot easier.

Hate: What About Bob? (1991)

Bob and Dr. Leo looking on in What About Bob?

As the introverted nature of the INTJs suggests, they enjoy their own alone time to reflect and concentrate. This time is very important to them. Given the fact that they also hate to have things not go as planned, What About Bob? would certainly be unpleasant for them.

The film stars Richard Dreyfus as a psychiatrist having a quiet and relaxing vacation with his family which is interrupted by his needy patient Bob (Bill Murray). The intrusive nature of Bob mixed with the chaos he brings is a nightmare for INTJs.

Love: Knives Out (2019)

Daniel Craig In Chair Knives Out

Rian Johnson delivered one of the most fun and crowd-pleasing movies of last year with Knives Out. The film is a homage to the great parlor mystery stories and stars Daniel Craig as a renowned detective investigating the death of a mystery writer at a family party.

Once again, INTJs would likely enjoy a comedy that focuses on such an intelligent main character. Craig's Benoit Blanc is an expert and getting to the root of a mystery and there's a lot of fun to be had with solving the puzzle along with him.

Hate: Dumb And Dumber (1994)

Dumb and Dumber

INTJs are highly intellectual people who love to learn and love having intellectual conversations with their peers. So it's probably a safe guess to assume that they wouldn't enjoy a movie called Dumb and Dumber.

The movie stars Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels as a couple of best friends who may also be the dumbest people on the planet. While they take comfort in their shared kinship, INTJs would be frustrated by the antics of these two foolish people who only seem to make each other dumber.
