Jeremy Renner has a big mess to clean up in the new trailer for Mayor of Kingstown season 2. Taylor Sheridan and Hugh Dillon teamed up to create Mayor of Kingstown, a gritty drama starring Renner as Mike McLusky, an ex-convict who serves as “mayor” of a town where incarceration is the only business. After wrapping up a pulse-pounding first season on Paramount+ (that unleashed one of the year's more shocking plot twists when it killed off Kyle Chandler's character in episode 1), the show in early February 2022 received a season 2 renewal.

Now fans are finally getting their first look at what will go down in the highly-anticipated Mayor of Kingstown season 2. It’s of course no surprise that season 2 finds Renner’s Mike McLusky still up to his elbows in problems, given everything that went down in season 1, including the huge prison riot and all the mayhem that ensued because of it. The above new trailer indicates that the action in Mayor of Kingstown season 2 picks up right where things left off in season 1. This means that Aidan Gillen’s bad guy Milo, who escaped during the riot by disguising himself as a guard, is still at large and likely to cause big problems for Mike. Then there’s Bunny (Tobi Bamtefa), whose drug business is taking a major hit as the guards clamp down on the prison in the wake of the riot.

Mike meanwhile is having to deal not only with the still-angry prisoners, but with the cops who clearly want to start cracking some skulls. Will Mike be able to stop all-out war from breaking out? As if all this weren’t enough for Mike to deal with, there’s also the matter of Iris (Emma Laird), who is still trying to piece things back together after all the trauma she went through in Mayor of Kingstown season 1 (including her unfortunate encounter with Mike's bear).

Fans naturally want a happy ending for Mike and Iris, but it looks like the pair will have to navigate a lot more trouble before getting their chance to escape Kingstown once and for all. It’s of course important to remember that Milo was Iris’s boss, and may want to get his hands on her again now that he’s out of prison. Will Mike be able to protect Iris from Milo, or is a tragic end in store for her? The answers will begin to arrive when Mayor of Kingstown season 2 hits Paramount+ beginning on January 15, 2023.
