A new trailer for Mayor of Kingstown starring Jeremy Renner shows off the gritty new series from Paramount+. Mayor of Kingstown is by creators Taylor Sheridan (Yellowstone) and Hugh Dillon, starring Renner, Dianne Wiest, and Kyle Chandler. The story focuses on a family of power brokers in Michigan who trade on the business of incarceration. Training Day director Antoine Fuqua also serves as an executive producer, alongside Sheridan and Renner, who spearhead the show, which will explore themes of "systemic racism, corruption and inequality," and provide "a stark look at their attempt to bring order and justice to a town that has neither."

Sheridan began his career as an actor, but branched out with a number of films that have established him as a major player in the film and TV industry, starting with Denis Villeneuve's Sicario. Sheridan then began directing his own projects, including the Angelina Jolie feature Those Who Wish Me Dead, Hell or High Water with Jeff Bridges and Chris Pine, and the thriller Wind River, which also starred Renner. The prolific writer/director is also the creator of the hit series Yellowstone with Kevin Costner, which is getting its own prequel series Y: 1883, starring Sam Elliot, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Billy Bob Thornton, which will debut sometime in December.

Today, Paramount+ released a new trailer for Mayor of Kingstown, which is set to debut on the service on November 14. The trailer shows brothers Renner and Chandler involved in all manner of questionable activities, with their mother, Dianne Wiest, likening them to "gangsters." Prison, police, explosions, violence, riots, and more are spattered throughout the trailer, which ends on the note that things are about to get worst. Check it out below:

Dianne Wiest is the Oscar-winning actress from Hannah and Her Sisters and Bullets Over Broadway, who has starred in a bevy of notable titles. Viewers will likely recognize Wiest from movies like The Lost Boys, The Birdcage, and Edward Scissorhands, as well as a recurring role on Law & Order. She also recently starred in the Netflix film I Care A Lot with Rosamund Pike and Peter Dinklage.

Sheridan has been on a roll of late with his film and TV projects, establishing himself as his own brand altogether, which focuses on the darker, grittier side of humanity with true-crime style thrillers featuring rich, complex characters. Having his Wind River star join in The Mayor of Kingstown looks to be another winner for the filmmaker, as well as for Renner. While Renner has made a name for himself with more "fun" roles like the Avengers' own Hawkeye, it's good to see him stretch his acting muscles with a more sophisticated character in a real-world setting in the upcoming 10-episode The Mayor of Kingstown season 1.
