A newly-released trailer for Marvel’s Midnight Suns highlights some of Spider-Man’s new supernatural abilities. XCOM developer Firaxis Games unveiled its comic-book-themed tactical role-playing title during last August’s Gamescom 2021 livestream showcase, and Marvel’s Midnight Suns is set to release across most major platforms this October. Players will assume the role of The Hunter, a customizable original character resurrected by a team of Marvel’s most famous heroes to help combat a demonic threat. The line-up of squadmates who will be joining The Hunter on this mission consists of mainstream characters like Iron Man, Captain America, and Wolverine alongside supernatural-based Marvel heroes like Doctor Strange, Blade, and Magik.

One of the more unexpected, but no less popular, superheroes to be confirmed for Marvel’s Midnight Suns is Spider-Man, who made his presence known during June’s Summer Game Fest event. The Marvel’s Midnight Suns trailer shown during this livestream showcase featured the Wall-Crawler leaping into action in a new black-and-gold costume to take on Venom - who has been corrupted by the demon army and their leader Lilith in a bid to unleash Hell on Earth. The reveal that Spidey will be in Marvel’s Midnight Suns has left some fans divided in a manner similar to his PlayStation-exclusive appearance as a DLC character in Marvel’s Avengers, but Peter Parker’s wisecracking alter ego will be swinging into action once more later this year - and he’s bringing a few new supernatural tricks with him.

Earlier this week, the official Marvel’s Midnight Suns YouTube channel posted a brand-new Midnight Suns trailer centered around Spider-Man, as reported by GameRant. Spider-Man battles against a group of military goons on a rooftop, starting with his usual assortment of high-flying kicks and web attacks before switching to a few new mystical fire-based abilities. One of these new attacks shows Spider-Man surrounding himself in supernatural flames and leaping into the air, then conjuring fiery versions of the spider-leg-like mechanical limbs that he often uses in his Iron Spider persona in the comics and MCU films.

These mechanical limbs can also be seen in some of the trailers for the upcoming Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, which will see Insomniac's version of the famous web-slinger return to the PlayStation 5 to battle classic foes like Venom and Kraven the Hunter in 2023. Meanwhile, Marvel’s Midnight Suns will feature a wide assortment of enemies like Sabretooth and the Venom, and recent postings from video game rating boards in Australia and other countries hint the game could be much darker than past Marvel offerings due to its Mature rating.

While some fans feel that Spider-Man is a poor fit for the supernaturally-themed Marvel’s Midnight Suns compared to characters like Moon Knight and Morbius, the ever-popular web-slinger will be present when Firaxis’s new superhero tactical RPG launches later this year. Spidey will also have some new demon-busting powers with him, and players will likely see more of these fiery attacks in action as Marvel’s Midnight Suns draws closer to its planned October release date.
