Friends star Matthew Perry has revealed the release date, title, and cover of his upcoming memoir, which will cover the high highs and low lows of his career. The actor first rose to prominence on the hit NBC sitcom, which ran for 10 seasons from 1994 to 2004. He played the sarcastic Chandler Bing, who eventually falls in love with and marries Courteney Cox's uptight but intensely passionate character Monica Gellar. Since the ending of Friends, he has appeared on the short-lived series Studio 60 on the Sunset StripMr. SunshineGo On, and The Odd Couple. His most recent credit is playing Ted Kennedy on the miniseries The Kennedys After Camelot.

Perry's Friends success coincided with a particularly tumultuous period of his personal life. In addition to dating high-profile stars including Julia Roberts, Lizzy Caplan, and Baywatch star Yasmine Bleeth (who was frequently referenced on Friends), he had very public struggles with addiction, which he has historically been open about. After a jet ski accident in 1997, Perry became addicted to Vicodin and eventually went to rehab twice for substance abuse. He has been sober since 2001 and opened Perry House, a sober living home in Malibu.

On his Twitter page, Matthew Perry shared the cover, release date, and title of his upcoming memoir, Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. He announced that "so much has been written about me in the past" and "I thought it was high time people heard from me." In typical sarcastic fashion, he also apologized that "it's not a pop-up book." The memoir is going to come out on November 1, 2022, just in time for the holiday season. Check out his post below:

This book comes on the heels of the success of HBO Max's Friends: The Reunion special. Although it was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the special aired on May 27, 2021, reuniting Perry and co-stars Courteney Cox, Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Lisa, Kudrow, and Matt Le Blanc onscreen for the first time since the series finale. That special became the most-watched program on the UK's Sky One network, with high ratings globally as well.

This will be the first memoir to be released by any member of the main Friends cast, though many books have been written about the history of the show itself. Given Matthew Perry's history, it certainly makes sense that he would be the first to share his story. Doubly so, considering how the period of the sitcom's run almost exactly coincides with the most important points of his story.
