This post contains SPOILERS for Thor: Ragnarok
Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige reveals Matt Damon could return in a future MCU installment following his cameo in Thor: Ragnarok. The A-lister made his leap to one of Hollywood's biggest franchises in director Taika Waititi's installment, portraying an Asgardian actor playing Loki in a stage play covering the God of Mischief's "heroic" life. It was one of the more amusing moments in a film loaded with hilarious bits, and though Damon's appearance was fleeting, he certainly left a lasting impression. Some found the presence of the recognizable star somewhat distracting, but many thought it was a fun addition to the Marvel universe.
Presumably, Damon's unnamed character escaped with the rest of the Asgardian survivors at the end of the film, which saw Thor's home realm be destroyed as he set course for Earth in one of the Grandmaster's spaceships. Right now, it's unknown if there will be a Thor 4 at some point down the line (though there is no shortage of ideas), but Feige seems open to the notion of having Damon return for another Marvel movie in the future.
During an interview with Collider, Feige didn't shoot down the prospect of seeing Asgard's famous thespian grace the silver screen again:
“I think, as he said to me on the carpet last night, that look, there he is now a stock as Asgardian player somewhere wandering the universe with, spoiler, Asgard gone. Who knows? It could be the adventures of a hard-working actor, Asgardian actor, in the future.”
As entertaining as it would be to see Damon become a recurring player in the MCU, fans may have to wait a while before it comes in fruition. For starters, it remains to be seen what fate awaits Thor and Loki's vessel from Ragnarok; it had an unfortunate encounter with Thanos during one of the stingers, so there is the lingering possibility it never completes its voyage. Considering Damon's nameless actor survives, it seems unlikely he would pop up in Avengers: Infinity War, which marks the God of Thunder's next appearance. That film has to juggle just about every single principal character in the MCU to date and has greater priorities than tossing in another Damon cameo. To date, there have been no rumors of the Oscar-winner being part of Ant-Man and the Wasp or the Spider-Man: Homecoming sequel, so time will tell.
Of course, a feature film isn't the only place where Damon could reprise his role. There's mounting evidence that Marvel is set to bring back their famous One Shot short films for home media releases, and an Asgardian actor toiling through auditions is the perfect kind of story for one of those projects. Waititi could also do something similar to his "Team Thor" videos and pair Damon's actor up with Darryl - which would lead to hilarious results. There's also a chance Damon features in a post-credits scene in an upcoming MCU installment, as some recent ones have skewed more towards the "joke" side of the spectrum.
