  • Available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Stadia and Microsoft Windows

Fans of The Matrix love the idea of hacking, with Resurrections depicting the characters hacking into the latest version of the Matrix to manipulate Neo’s surroundings. Watch Dogs 2 is along the same lines, in that players need to hack the open world to aid the protagonist.

The premise is about the main character looking to take down the city’s futuristic surveillance equipment as a form of vigilantism, which is similar to The Matrix Resurrections’ outline of characters defying The Analyst’s control over the Matrix.

Max Payne 3 (2012)

  • Available on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Microsoft Windows and OS X

There’s little chance that viewers watched The Matrix Resurrections without being fans of the series’ trademark slow-motion effects, which the latest installment made better than ever in its shooting sequences. For this reason, Max Payne 3 will make Matrix fans feel right at home.

The story is also relatively similar, in that it has the main protagonist grieving the death of his lover, which is much like Neo pining for Trinity. In gameplay, players have to use Max to mow down enemies with a number of ranged weapons, with the highlight of Max’s slow-motion shooting part being an integral part of the experience.

Assassin's Creed Valhalla (2020)

  • Available on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One and Xbox Series X/S

While it’s arguable whether Assassin’s Creed Valhalla is the best in the series, fans of The Matrix Resurrections have a good probability of liking it. That’s because the world takes place in a simulation, which is how the story goes in the latest movie.

Much like The Matrix Resurrections, the story unfolds based on the choices made by the protagonist, a Viking who comes across advanced technology from a civilization that existed in the past. Gameplay is about the exploration of the vast, open world, while combat is fast-paced along the lines of The Matrix series.

The Matrix Resurrections saw The Analyst claim that he could turn the simulated reality to whatever lengths he pleased, in that there were no boundaries. Saints Row IV is how fans can see that vision come true, with just about everything possible in this open world video game that has much to explore.

It’s actually a parody of The Matrix, as things take on a wacky atmosphere, with the player character having superpowers the way Neo has, including aspects like flying and telekinesis. Movie fans can see, through Saints Row IV, just how liberated the characters might feel if they could run free in the Matrix.

The popularity of this game inspired the adaptation of the Prince of Persia movie, with the premise about the Prince and Farah working together to take down the villainous Vizier in a time-travel plot. Neo and Trinity were the heart of the story in The Matrix Resurrections, so fans will appreciate this game where the protagonists’ romance is portrayed.

Even in gameplay, the Prince and Farah have to be maneuvered in a way that they work together to defeat the sand monsters. While it doesn’t have the simulated reality of the Matrix, it has the core outline of the hero and heroine as a battle couple against evil forces.

It has a central mystery that drives the plot, which is comparable to The Matrix Resurrections that kept viewers guessing over who was in charge of the Matrix. Horizon Zero Dawn’s gameplay is about exploring the world, fighting the machines, and enhancing Aloy’s skill set, while the story looks into her uncovering what her identity really is.

Cyberpunk 2077 (2020)

It’s played in first-person, so players can have a true feel of being right at the heart of the environment. Much like The Matrix Resurrections, there’s a larger-than-life atmosphere that seems as if anything is possible, although Reeves’ presence might still be why players will want to check this out.
