Here's how Neo's powers in The Matrix Resurrections compare to those he displayed in the original Matrix trilogy. Neo, as the Matrix movies establish over and over, is "The One," an anomaly in the system that possesses the ability to manipulate aspects of the virtual world, and is foretold to be the person capable of ending the war between humans and machines. Of course, as is revealed over the course of the trilogy, Neo is far from the first One. In fact, he's the sixth.

Neo is special, even if he comes away from his first chat with The Oracle feeling he might not be. It turns out later that he's actually extra special, as he's The One who finally makes the choice to deviate from the pattern that's lasted hundreds of years. Instead of returning to the source and rebooting the Matrix, and choosing a group of humans to survive and start a new Zion, Neo rejects The Architect's offer and eventually offers a counter-proposal. Neo will take out rampaging renegade program Agent Smith, in exchange for peace.

Neo succeeds at the end of The Matrix Revolutions, appearing to die in the process. It's unclear if there will ever need to be another One, but as The Matrix Resurrections revealed, Neo's death wasn't as permanent as it seemed, and the status of The One ended up complex as a result. Either way, once woken up to his true self, it's clear he still possesses at least some of his old powers within the Matrix. Here's how his old and new power levels compare.

Neo's Powers & Abilities In The Original Matrix Trilogy

Neo flies through the Matrix in The Matrix Reloaded.

In addition to Neo's general ability to manipulate aspects of the Matrix, perhaps his most notable power is being able to dodge bullets, although being able to fly is certainly up there as well. Neo is also telekinetic in general, able to move objects with his mind. He also possesses superhuman strength and speed within the Matrix, giving Neo an edge when battling agents and other foes within the digital realm. Speaking of agents, he's also able to detect their presence, and sometimes the presence of other anomalies within the Matrix. Also helping in battle is his ability to absorb more of the human resistance's martial arts programs than a normal person is capable of, making him a master of not only kung fu but multiple other fighting disciplines.

Neo sometimes passes through solid objects as well, such as when he enters Agent Smith's body long enough to defeat him at the end of the first Matrix movie. That ability also came in real handy as Trinity was dying in The Matrix Reloaded, with Neo actually reaching into her chest and restarting her heart. That said, there are limits to Neo's powers as The One. He isn't invincible, and he also doesn't have an infinite well of endurance. Neo is definitely akin to a superhero within the Matrix world, but he's not quite as hard to damage as someone like Superman. That said, Neo has also shown an ability to be resurrected after what seems like certain death, so it's possible the depths of his powers go much deeper than what's been shown onscreen.

Neo's New Powers & Abilities In The Matrix Resurrections

Neo begins The Matrix Resurrections having been forced into a false reality by the new villain, The Analyst. Neo believes himself to be a game designer named Thomas Anderson, who designed a successful series of Matrix video games that are actually based on Neo's own memories. When Neo is first woken up to who he is, his powers as The One don't immediately manifest, making it unclear if perhaps his death and rebirth caused them to fade. Before long though, Neo's fighting abilities are back, emphasized by his "I still know kung fu" line, and he returns to his previously impressive fighting style and manner of dealing with problems.

Up until the final scenes of The Matrix Resurrections, when Neo is fully reunited with Trinity, his powers appear to only be somewhat active. This is made apparent when Neo first attempts to fly but fails miserably. Once reunited with Trinity though, Neo is now capable of sending out psychic blast attacks with his hands, in a way almost akin to Ryu and Ken's Hadouken fireball power in the Street Fighter franchise. It would appear that outside of that new ability, Neo wasn't quite as powerful as in the original Matrix trilogy, but when he and Trinity confront The Analyst at the end, Neo seems back at full strength, flying included.

Is Neo More Powerful In Resurrections Than The Original Matrix Trilogy?

The Matrix Trinity Neo The One

It's hard to fully gauge whether Neo is more powerful in The Matrix Resurrections than in the original Matrix trilogy, if only because he's only at his most powerful at the end of the movie, and this full-powered Neo isn't shown fighting anyone. That said, Neo and Trinity do smack around The Analyst, and it's hard to imagine Neo being able to beat up The Architect in such a manner. Neo and Trinity do say they plan to remake the Matrix completely, and if they can do that, that's certainly more than Neo could do in the original trilogy. However, when it comes specifically to the question of Neo's power level, Trinity herself becomes a huge question mark.

Yet, if their powers are tied up in one another, Neo himself may not actually be more powerful than he was when active as the sole One, or even as powerful as then. By the end of The Matrix Resurrections, Trinity and Neo appear to have the same powers and are now both The One within the virtual world. With that in mind, the answer to whether Neo is more powerful in The Matrix Resurrections is both a yes and no. He and Trinity together are capable of more than he was in the original Matrix trilogy, but without Trinity by his side, it's quite possible he alone wouldn't be. Thankfully, it seems unlikely Neo and Trinity will end up apart again anytime soon. While it remains to be seen if a Matrix 5 will happen - although Resurrections' awful box office suggests it won't - Neo and Trinity can spend their time painting the sky with rainbows for now.
