Video from the San Francisco set of The Matrix 4 reunites Carrie-Anne Moss and Keanu Reeves as Trinity and Neo for the first time in 17 years. Details about the film's plot are still mostly unknown. When the project was first announced, there were rumors that Morpheus would be recast as a younger version of the character, but anything beyond that is pure speculation at this point.

Directed by Lana Wachowski from a script she co-wrote with Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchel, the film will also star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jonathan Groff, Toby Onwumere, Eréndira Ibarra, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jessica Henwick. Jada Pinkett, last seen in The Matrix: Reloaded, returns to the franchise with Moss and Reeves. However, original castmembers Hugo Weaving and Laurence Fishburne are sitting this one out, leaving many to wonder how Agent Smith and Morpheus might factor into the film. Those answers might not be forthcoming, but recent set leaks confirm that Trinity and Neo will meet again.

Reeves and Moss are reunited on the streets of San Francisco, where The Matrix 4 is currently filming. A Twitter user named Vedoveto37 posted a video of Neo and Trinity riding down the road on a motorcycle. The short clip shows a shaggy-haired, bearded Reeves riding on the back of Moss' bike, which is attached to a process trailer - a low rise platform that allows the camera crew to more easily film driving scenes.

It's interesting that once again, the footage seems to suggest Trinity acting as a mentor to Neo, replacing Morpheus in the role. Another important detail: Trinity wears a variation on her signature black leather look, but Reeves' Neo has more in common with John Wick than his appearance in the original trilogy. Neo's new look and the young Morpheus rumor could indicate that their roles in each other's lives will be swapped for The Matrix 4.

The Matrix 4 hits theaters on May 21, 2021, the same day that John Wick: Chapter 4 is supposed to arrive. So maybe, Reeve's Wick-like appearance has some greater, yet-to-be-explained meaning. With filming underway, eager fans can expect more tiny details to reveal themselves over time, and the countdown to the first glimpse of official footage has begun. Until then, curious moviegoers will have to decipher the plot for themselves using future set videos and their imaginations to fill in the blanks.
