A new ad for The Matrix Resurrections revealed that the trailer for the upcoming film will be released this Thursday. Lana Wachowski is returning to direct the highly anticipated film nearly two decades after the conclusion of the original trilogy, this time without her sister Lilly. The original Matrix movie was groundbreaking in its innovative special effects and for kickstarting a renewed interest in the sci-fi genre and cyberpunk. Keanu Reeves will return in Resurrections as Neo alongside Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity, both of whom died at the end of the original film. Jada Pinkett Smith will also appear as her character Niobe.

Joining the trio is a slew of stars - Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is rumored to appear as a young version of Laurence Fishburne's character Morpheus. Neil Patrick Harris, Priyanka Chopra, Jonathan Groff, Christina Ricci, and Jessica Henwick also star. Right now, The Matrix Resurrections' plot remains under wraps, but first footage from the film debuted at CinemaCon teasing what Wachowski has in store for the film. From descriptions, it sounds like Neo and Trinity will find themselves back in the matrix, unaware of their true identities. The larger story remains a mystery, though, but answers may be forthcoming.
