New Matrix Resurrections images confirm Priyanka Chopra Jonas' character to be Sati, now an older exile program in the sci-fi action sequel. The Quantico alum is one of the many new stars on the ensemble roster for the latest installment in the franchise alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Morpheus, Jessica Henwick, Jonathan Groff, Neil Patrick Harris and Christina Ricci. The cast of The Matrix Resurrections is being led by legacy stars Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity alongside Lambert Wilson as The Merovingian, Jada Pinkett Smith as Niobe and Daniel Bernhardt as Agent Johnson.

The Matrix Resurrections picks up 20 years after the events of The Matrix Revolutions as Neo is back living inside the titular universe as Thomas A. Anderson, enjoying a seemingly ordinary life in San Francisco on a prescription of blue pills from his therapist. One day, Anderson runs into Trinity, though neither of them recognize one another, but it awakens something in him he thought to be a lie. When reunited with a new version of Morpheus offering a red pill, Anderson's mind is reopened to the truth behind the Matrix and his past as Neo and must join Morpheus and his rebel fighters to save humanity from the machine threat again.

Since the arrival of the first trailer, audiences have been speculating to the identity of the film's various new actors, with theories for Priyanka Chopra Jonas pointing towards her taking over the role of Sati in The Matrix Resurrections. The new images not only offer a proper confirmation of her role in the film but also a nice tease of her involvement in the story, featuring her in multiple locations and meeting with Jessica Henwick's Bugs at some point. The first trailer for the film also indicated her involvement in Neo's reawakening, offering a still-brainwashed Anderson a copy of Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, whose white rabbit is a recurring motif throughout the franchise.

Chopra Jonas' casting as Sati in The Matrix Resurrections marks the second character from the past films to be recast for the new installment alongside Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Morpheus. Much like the rebel leader, theories of Sati's importance to the new film have been building within the fandom, including the possibility of her taking over the role of the Oracle. Only time will tell what Sati's return holds when The Matrix Resurrections hits theaters and HBO Max on December 22.
