The first footage for The Matrix: Resurrections is now available to watch online ahead of the trailer release, and here's how to view it. Almost 20 years after the Matrix trilogy came to an end, the story is continuing with The Matrix: Resurrections. The fourth movie in the franchise, which is only being directed by Lana Wachowski this time, is bringing back Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss as Neo and Trinity respectively. With anticipation building ahead of its December 2021 release, Warner Bros. is ready to show off the sequel.

The first footage for The Matrix 4 debuted at CinemaCon in August 2021, which reveals including that Neo is back going back his Matrix name of Thomas Anderson, seemingly with no memory of ever being The One. While that was exclusive, audiences worldwide will be able to see The Matrix 4 trailer when it arrives online on Thursday September 9, 2021, but before then there is a chance to see a few snippets of footage from the film.

In keeping with the spirit of the original movies, WB has launched a viral marketing campaign for The Matrix: Resurrections, through which viewers can see clips from the movie. To watch the first footage from The Matrix 4, go to WhatIsTheMatrix.com. There, visitors to the site will be given a choice between the red pill and blue pill; depending on which one is chosen, viewers will see one of countless unique clips showcasing various bits of footage from The Matrix 4. Each brief teaser has some voiceover narration, calls out the exact time that you're watching the clip, and ends with a message saying the trailer is coming in two days. Unfortunately, you can't pause or rewind the footage, as doing so will simply re-load the page and take you back to the red pill or blue pill screen, but there is no limit to the amount of times you can make a choice.

Neo gets ready to battle in The Matrix Resurrections.

Every teaser is unique, though there are plenty of moments that frequently recur, such as a shot of Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's character looking in a mirror, Jonathan Groff's character having his mouth shot, and various angles of a big sequence involving Neo with a large crowd. The voiceovers mostly seem to be split depending on which pill is chosen: taking the red pill leads to narration from Abdul-Mateen II, whereas the blue pill comes with voiceover from Neil Patrick Harris' character, who is some kind of therapist to Neo. Abdul-Mateen II's character wants you (or more likely, Neo) to challenge the reality, and Harris' wants to affirm it is real. This broadly fits with their expected roles in The Matrix 4, as the latter is seemingly more inside the Matrix with Anderson (thus blue pill) and the former is rumored to be a young Morpheus (so red pill).

It's likely a lot of these clips will make it into the finished trailer, and seeing them together might help to offer better context for what's happening. Still, it's likely that WB will try to be as secretive and mysterious as possible with The Matrix: Resurrections, so the trailer - similar to the teasers - probably won't be giving much away.
