A new Matrix Resurrections clip sees Yahya Abdul-Mateen II's Morpheus offering Neo the red pill despite the latter's uncertainty of the truth. Keanu Reeves' Neo is one of the returning legacy characters for the sequel alongside Carrie-Anne Moss' Trinity, Lambert Wilson's The Merovingian, Daniel Bernhardt's Agent Johnson and Jada Pinkett Smith's Niobe. Abdul-Mateen II's Morpheus is one of three original characters being recast in the new film alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas' Sati and Jonathan Groff's Smith.

The cast for The Matrix Resurrections also includes franchise newcomers Jessica Henwick as human fighter Bugs, Neil Patrick Harris as the mysterious therapist The Analyst and Christina Ricci in a currently undisclosed role. The film picks up years after the events of The Matrix Revolutions in which Neo is back living in the Matrix under his old identity of Thomas A. Anderson with no memory of his past or of the real world. Following a chance encounter with the similarly amnesiac Trinity and a de-aged Morpheus, Neo begins to regain his memory and embarks on a new fight for humanity and to save his love.

With just over a week remaining until the film's arrival, Warner Bros. (via Bloody Disgusting) has revealed a new Matrix Resurrections clip. The video sees Morpheus meeting with Neo in a public bathroom and offering him a red pill, only for the latter to try and reject it and believe it to be a trick. Check out the new clip below:

The new Matrix Resurrections clip marks an interesting further tease of the nature of Abdul-Mateen II's Morpheus in the film. The younger recasting has spawned numerous theories amongst the fan base, ranging from his actually being a decoy program created by the Machines to trap the freedom fighters to it being a completely different person taking up the mantle passed down by Laurence Fishburne's original figure. The clip seemingly points towards his not being a malicious figure but a true ally to the human group in their efforts to reawaken Neo to the truth.

One of the more interesting takeaways from The Matrix Resurrections clip is the reveal of Henwick's Bugs and Toby Onwumere's Sequoia appearing within the Matrix to directly interact with Morpheus. In the original Matrix trilogy, communication between those plugged in and those monitoring the group was handled with cell phones, making for Bugs and Sequoia's being in the room with the two, albeit unseen by Neo, an interesting evolution in the real world communication between the humans as well as a potential tease of Morpheus' role in the real world. Only time will tell when The Matrix Resurrections hits theaters and HBO Max on December 22.
