Newly released images from The Matrix: Resurrections confirm the return of Carrie Anne-Moss as Trinity. Fans have been desperate for information about the return of The Matrix series ever since part 4 was announced. With Trinity’s return confirmed, the speculation can now begin on how exactly that is possible considering what happened to her in the last film.
Moss' Trinity was a staple in the original Matrix trilogy, appearing in The Matrix, The Matrix: Reloaded, and The Matrix: Revolutions. Trinity was not only a key resistance member and one of the best fighters of the group, but she was also the love interest of Keanu Reeve’s Neo. Trinity was the heart that inspired Neo to greatness. While both characters seemingly died during the events of the third film, it has long been assumed that both Neo and Trinity would be returning for Matrix: Resurrections.
New footage released at WhatIsTheMatrix.com (and reposted on Imgur by user p0rtman87) reveals images of Carrie Anne-Moss’ Trinity returning in The Matrix: Resurrections. While Trinity may not be as prominent as some of the other characters, a closer look reveals several images of her in the teaser footage. Feel free to peruse some of those images below:
One of the most exciting shots is the one of Trinity next to the phone, as it closely mirrors a scene from the original The Matrix. Does this, as well as her and Neo being reborn again, hint at a Matrix reboot? Is the Matrix cycle starting again, a never-ending system of balance hinted at in The Matrix: Revolutions?
However the return of Neo and Trinity is explained, there is no doubt that Moss is a welcome addition to The Matrix: Resurrections. It would not be a Matrix movie for many without Trinity and Neo, which is why so many assumed the franchise was over after the third film. Whether or not their return will result in a movie that could rival the original's heights is another concern, but it seems like Moss and Reeves would not have returned if they did not think the story was something special.
