The official logo for The Matrix 4 offers a twist on the original trilogy. The Matrix 4 will bring back a few familiar faces from the first three movies, including Keanu Reeves as Neo and Carrie-Anne Moss as Trinity. The initial trilogy achieved critical and commercial success, but it's been 17 years since the most recent film, The Matrix Revolutions, was released. For this reason, there's extra excitement around The Matrix 4, which will feature Lana Wachowski solo directing a movie in the franchise for the first time. The upcoming film began shooting early this year, but then had to temporarily pause work due to the coronavirus. The Matrix 4 resumed production in late summer and finished filming last month.

The movie's release date has also been affected by the pandemic. The Matrix 4 was originally supposed to come out in May 2021. However, in June, Warner Bros. delayed it alongside several other movies, resulting in an April 2022 date. Luckily, the company reversed course a bit in October, announcing The Matrix 4 would release on December 22, 2021.

Today, there was a further update on The Matrix 4's release. Warner Bros. made the unprecedented announcement it would release all of its 2021 movies to streaming the same day as their theatrical releases. This means The Matrix 4 will be available to watch at home next year. HBO Max shared a video to Twitter in order to make the announcement. In the video, a glimpse of the official logo for The Matrix 4 can be seen. Check it out, along with the full logo, below:

The Matrix 4 logo offers a neat twist on the logos chosen for the first three films in the franchise. While the others had a dark background, The Matrix 4 flips it by making the text black and the background white. It makes for a striking, somewhat sparse image that's immediately eye-catching.

Despite the color swap, The Matrix 4's logo honors the original trilogy. The text style is the same, showing its connection to the first three movies. Additionally, keeping the color scheme relatively similar makes it instantly clear The Matrix 4 is very much still part of the franchise. The logo is appropriately updated for modern times, recognizing the near two decades that have passed since the most recent movie. However, it isn't so different that loyal fans will be disappointed. The official logo for The Matrix 4 should make audiences even more excited for its release next year, especially since they now know they'll be able to check it out at home.
