Match Group, the company behind popular dating apps like Tinder and OkCupid, has released a new dating app called Stir, specifically for single parents. Dating can be difficult at the best of times, even for young people without kids. However, dating can be a proverbial nightmare in more ways than one for people with kids.

Over the past decade, dating apps have gained immense popularity among people of all age groups, and many services cater to just about everybody. Some of the best-known dating apps and websites circa 2022 include Tinder, Bumble, OkCupid, Match.com, eHarmony, Coffee Meets Bagel, Plenty of Fish and more.

On National Single Parent Day (March 21), Match Group has launched a new dating app specifically meant for single parents. Called Stir, the app comes with multiple features that the company believes will make it easier for single parents to connect with others in similar situations. The most significant differentiating factor in the app is the ability to share personal schedules with other users, which Match believes will make it easier for single parents to juggle their love life with childcare duties. As part of the plan, the app has a feature called Stir Time, which allows users to mark when they're free on any day of the week. Users can specify the day and the time when they're free, so that prospective matches know when they'll be available.

The Stir App Is Free With Premium Tiers

Match's Vice President of new verticals, Dinh Thi Bui, said the idea behind a dating app is that having kids should not make dating more difficult. According to Bui, Stir will offer single parents "a dating experience where they are celebrated and feel like they can be themselves." The app soft-launched last fall and is now available for all users on Android and iOS. It is free to use, but Match is also offering paid tiers that start at $40 per month. The premium tier allows users to message others before they match and control who sees their profile. Like some of the other popular dating apps, Stir users can also pay more for 'Super Likes' or gain more visibility in the app's algorithm.

In the lead-up to the launch of the new app, Match claims to have conducted a study on single parents and their dating lives, throwing up a lot of interesting aspects of dating as a single parent in America. According to the survey data, 54 percent of the single parents claimed that they were ghosted after a first date, and more than 20 percent of respondents faced the same fate after their dates learned that they had kids. The survey further found that 37 percent of single parents could only find around one to two hours per week for dating, while 34 percent said they spent upwards of three hours per week searching for love. Asked what they would do if they could find an extra couple of hours per week, 45 percent of respondents claimed they would spend that time dating. Match is hoping that most of them will join the Stir bandwagon.
