Are Netflix’s She-Ra and the Princesses of Power and Masters of the Universe: Revelation set in the same universe? Based on Mattel’s popular toy line, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe aired from 1983-1985. The beloved series took place in the mystical realm of Eternia and centered on Prince Adam, who used the Sword of Power to transform into He-Man, the world’s mightiest mortal. Aside from comics, cartoons, and video games, the show also spawned a 1987 live-action movie, as well as a spin-off, She-Ra: Princess of Power, which ran from 1985-1986. Set on the planet Etheria, the spin-off followed Adam’s twin sister, Princess Adora. Thanks to her Sword of Protection, she was able to transform into a powerful hero, known as She-Ra.

In 2018 Netflix began airing a reboot of the series, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, which just aired its fifth and final season. He-Man will soon return on the streaming titan as well. Although the Masters of the Universe live-action reboot has been stuck in development for years, a continuation of the original show, titled Masters of the Universe: Revelation, is set to hit Netflix. A release date has yet to be announced for the series, which will be helmed by Kevin Smith. The cartoon will be aimed at adults, though a family-friendly CG animated reboot, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, is also in the works for the streaming service.

Considering the original shows were so closely linked, it would make sense for the new projects to connect, especially since they are both on Netflix. So, will Masters of the Universe: Revelation take place in the same universe as She-Ra and the Princesses of Power? Sadly, the answer to this question seems to be no. Not too much has been revealed about the upcoming animated series, save Masters of the Universe: Revelation's star-studded cast. However, the show is shaping up to be quite different in tone from She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. Showrunner Noelle Stevenson previously explained that He-Man would not be appearing alongside She-Ra, allowing her to become a hero in her own right. Further complicating matters, Smith's show is a revival and not a reboot.

He Man and She Ra

He-Man and the Masters of the Universe and She-Ra: Princess of Power had several crossovers. He-Man & She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword, which was basically the first five installments of She-Ra edited together, served as a launchpad for the spin-off series, but it was hardly the only time these powerful twins joined forces. The most memorable for many fans was He-Man & She-Ra: A Christmas Special, but there were plenty of crossover episodes as well. Despite the new projects' differing styles, Stevenson would love to see another He-Man/She-Ra Christmas team-up, though she isn't holding her breath. She-Ra and the Princesses of Power did wrap up rather perfectly, so it seems the decision not to include Adora's brother was a solid one.

While most fans would love to see a He-Man and She-Ra shared universe on Netflix, unfortunately, this seems unlikely to happen. It might feel strange that such closely connected properties will be separate despite being on the same streaming service, but these two shows have always been able to stand on their own. While She-Ra’s journey has come to an end, viewers can continue to look forward to the upcoming Masters of the Universe: Revelation. Perhaps there is still hope for a She-Ra and the Princesses of Power crossover with the family-friendly He-Man CG animated series that Netflix has in the works.
