The first images for Masters of the Universe: Revelation have been revealed, finally giving fans a look at He-Man, Skeletor, and the rest of the crew returning to action. Kevin Smith is leading the new animated series, which is targeted at older fans of the original cartoon and picks up the story directly after it ended. Revelation is one of two Masters of the Universe projects currently in development at Netflix, with a CGI revival series aimed at younger audiences also in the works.
Masters of the Universe: Revelation has been highly anticipated for its promise of continuing the original story with older fans in mind. The show stars an ensemble voice cast including Chris Wood as He-Man, Mark Hamill as Skeletor, Lena Headey as Evil-Lyn, Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela, Henry Rollins as Tri-Clops, Phil LaMarr as He-Ro, Kevin Michael Richardson as Beast Man, and Kevin Conroy as Mer-Man. Until now, very little of the show has been revealed to the public, though Kevin Smith has been relatively consistent with updates.
That drought is over now, as Netflix has released a series of first-look images of Masters of the Universe: Revelation. The show is animated by Powerhouse Studios, which has previously worked on the streamer’s critically acclaimed Castlevania adaptation. The animation style of Revelation understandably looks very similar to Castlevania, which should be great news for fans. Classic characters like He-Man and Skeletor look better than ever, and their colorful fantasy world is stunning in the stills seen so far. Check out the new images below.
Netflix has also announced that the first part of Masters of the Universe: Revelation will premiere in July. Part 1 will consist of 5 episodes, and a second part will be released later, at an undisclosed date, to complete the story. That means that fans of the franchise will get to check out the new series in just two months, with more coming soon.
Classic cartoon revivals have been somewhat in vogue of late, with Netflix having already dipped into the space with the Transformers: War for Cybertron trilogy. That series has been pretty well-received by critics and fans and, hopefully, the streamer can find similar success with the new He-Man. Kevin Smith is certainly passionate about the original series, so Revelation will likely at least stay true to what’s come before. Part 1 of Masters of the Universe: Revelation releases on Netflix on July 23.
