Recent Masters of the Universe fan art imagines what Mer-Man could look like in a live-action movie adaptation. The popular Masters of the Universe franchise began as a toy line from Mattel in the 1980s. However, it soon spanned comics, books, TV shows, and more. Masters of the Universe focuses on He-Man and his sister, She-Ra, who both fight evil on the planet Etheria. It also features a host of other characters, including Mer-Man, a part fish-part human creature who is often shown as an undersea ruler. Despite the age of the franchise, Masters of the Universe remains popular, with multiple projects currently in the works.

Following the success of its She-Ra and the Princesses of Power reboot, Netflix is developing two different shows. The first, Masters of the Universe: Revelation, is a sequel series from director Kevin Smith. Mark Hamill, Lena Headey, and Tony Todd all provide voicework for the show. Masters of the Universe: Revelation doesn't have a release date yet, with Smith speculating recently it will likely be several months until a trailer drops. A separate CG show is also in the works at Netflix, though it was only announced last year.

Meanwhile, Sony is developing a live-action Masters of the Universe movie, with Noah Centineo cast as He-Man. However, the film currently has no release date, with Sony reportedly considering selling it to Netflix. This news comes after the movie has had several directors and writers attached over the years. The adaptation has many wondering what the Masters of the Universe characters would look like in live-action today. Recently, digital artist georgeevangelista imagined Mer-Man with that idea in mind. Check it out below:

In some adaptations, Mer-Man looks quite comical and often favors bright blue and yellow. However, this artist's take is intriguingly creature-focused, playing up the character's creepier elements. This Mer-Man is more akin to a villain in an underwater fantasy film. Provided the new live-action Masters of the Universe movie is actually made, it will be interesting to see the direction Sony takes. Hopefully, their Mer-Man stands on his own, while also paying homage to the character's origins.

Even if the movie with Centineo doesn't come to fruition soon, Netflix has fans covered with its shows. Masters of the Universe: Revelation is especially exciting, considering its impressive voice cast and Smith's history as a creator. Hopefully, talented artists like georgeevangelista will continue to honor Masters of the Universe as well, showing its enduring appeal.
