What To Expect From Master Of None Season 3

Aziz Ansari has returned to Netflix for a new stand-up comedy special, but what about Master of None season 3? Here's what we know so far.

Master of None Season 3

What can Netflix subscribers expect from Master of None season 3? Created by Aziz Ansari and Alan Yang, the dramedy series follows the experiences of Dev Shah, a hopeless romantic looking for love and happiness in New York City and Italy. Thematically, Master of None references Ansari’s cinematic influences, like Italian Neorealism and the French New Wave.

In Master of None, Ansari stars as Dev, a 30-year-old actor. The narrative themes are similar to Ansari’s real-life stand-up comedy specials, full of life lessons about culture, relationships, and social media etiquette. Master of None season 1 premiered on November 6, 2015, and Master of None season 2 released on May 12, 2017. Ansari and Yang won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series for the Master of None season 1 episode “Parents. For Master of None season 2, Ansari and Lena Waithe received the same honor for writing “Thanksgiving.”

In January 2018, Ansari was accused of sexual misconduct, and subsequently disappeared from the spotlight. On July 9, 2019, Netflix premiered Ansari's new stand-up special, Aziz Ansari: Right Now, in which he addresses the controversy and discusses his future. Given the new developments, here’s what we expect from Master of None season 3.

Master Of None Season 3 Renewal

Master of None

Netflix hasn’t yet ordered Master of None season 3. Because of the allegations made against Ansari, Netflix wisely didn’t make an immediate decision about a new season, however the streaming service’s head of original content Cindy Holland offered a telling comment in July 2018, noting that they’d move forward “when Aziz is ready."

Now that Ansari has seemingly moved forward with his career, it seems plausible that Master of None season 3 could be announced during the summer 2019. In general, Netflix typically waits three to six weeks before making official announcements about future installments after new premieres. So, Netflix will probably take some time to assess the public reaction to Aziz Ansari: Right Now before announcing Master of None season 3 - if Ansari is indeed ready. Don’t be surprised if Netflix officially orders Master of None season 3 by the end of August 2019.

Master Of None Season 3 Release Date Info

The Master of None season 3 release date largely depends on whether Ansari has already been working on concepts and scripts. Prior to the 2018 controversy, Ansari noted that he’d “have to become a different guy” before writing a third season. Now, it seems plausible that Ansari has a firm grasp on new story concepts and character development.

If Netflix orders Master of None season 3 by the end of summer 2019, the new episodes would theoretically premiere later in 2020 or by early 2021. If Ansari already has scripts in place, a 2020 release seems most likely.

Master Of None Season 3 Story Details

Master of None season 2 ends with Dev revealing his feelings for an Italian love interest named Francesca (Alessandra Mastronardi). During Francesca’s visit to New York, the two bond over movies and conversations about culture, and ultimately confront their mutual emotions. The last image shows the two characters in bed together, with Francesca no longer wearing her engagement ring.

Based on Ansari’s real-life experiences, Master of None season 3 would likely have a more serious tone, evidenced by the comedian’s comments in his latest stand-up special. In the past, Master of None has addressed heavy concepts through light-hearted conversations, with Dev often pointing out the problems with others, all the while looking inward to decide what type of man he wants to be.

Moving forward, Master of None season 3 would most likely underline Dev’s personal flaws as he builds a relationship with Francesca. Or perhaps the characters' failed relationship will lead Dev to pursue new professional opportunities. Netflix subscribers can expect Master of None season 3 to include less pop culture references and feature more authentic moments.
