The two-hour Super 8 special on The Masked Singer resulted in two shocking eliminations. Crab was the first celebrity to be eliminated and was revealed to be former New Edition band member Bobby Brown. He was almost revealed early when, like actor Mickey Rourke, Brown got so hot in the costume he attempted to remove his mask on stage. Unlike Mickey Rourke's Gremlin, however, the staff was able to get Brown backstage before he removed the head of the costume. Still, the face under the mask was not much of a surprise. Fans and judges were both certain Crab was Bobby Brown from his first performance.

The clues and voice of Crab were so clear it actually made us wonder if they were too obvious. The music icon goes on record as being the earliest aired correct guess from the judges. In past seasons, a correct guess by judges hasn't been aired on a contestant's first performance. Usually, the correct guesses aren't aired until the week they go home. Earlier correct guesses have been edited out, as fans noticed when Nicole Scherzinger correctly guessed former Masked Singer contestant Jesse McCartney and said she was sticking to her previous guess, one fans never saw. No matter how early judges get it right, it's still not earlier than the fans.

We predicted Bobby Brown and linked all the clues to him after his first performance, but were skeptical because of his name being guessed by the panel so quickly. But it was pretty hard to ignore the clue matches and, of course, Brown's iconic voice. This week's clues were no different. The marshmallows and the "bustin" mentioned in his clues were for Ghostbusters II and his song "On Our Own," one of the two he contributed to the movie's soundtrack while also appearing on-screen. The jack playing card also points to this song, as it was credited for bringing the new jack swing style into the mainstream and helped earn Brown, along with the originator of the style, Teddy Riley, the title of "King of New Jack Swing."

Some of the more obvious clues were about the singer's personal life. Crab talked about his dreams coming true and everyone in the world envying him, but said his blessings were followed by great tragedy. Brown was on top of the world at one time. He followed up his New Edition career with a successful solo career and, in his personal life, he married superstar Whitney Houston. The tragedies that followed were also very public – his documented drug use and jail stints, the tragic death of not only his former wife but also his daughter Bobbi Kristina, and soon after the passing of his son, Bobby Brown Jr.

A few of the more confusing clues were the Mona Lisa painting, which turned out to be a more generic nod to his early album The Masterpiece. He spoke of family while showing the Butterfly costume worn by Michelle Williams and the Bee costume worn by Gladys Knight. These all tie together in their connection to American Soul. The show follows Don Cornelius and Soul Train. Bobby Brown played Rufus Thomas, Michelle Williams played Diana Ross, and her former bandmate, Kelly Rowland, played Gladys Knight.

Brown is part of a trend of music greats who have appeared on The Masked Singer, and he will be greatly missed. His addition to the show in the new wildcard twist has set a new pattern. The first wildcard, Orca, was singer Mark McGrath. If our prediction for Yeti is correct, he is also a professional recording artist. This means the wildcards are experienced heavy-hitters. The other pattern Brown follows is that, between Crab's elimination with Seashell and last week's ousting of Orca, sea-themed costumes seem to have had a bad luck streak this season.
