Who is The Bee on The Masked Singer? The seemingly-iconic performer has the world buzzing after performing hits by Miley Cyrus, Bruno Mars, Sia, and even Tina Turner. Based on the clues, The Bee is presumably none other than R&B icon Gladys Knight.

On The Masked Singer, celebrities perform for an audience and four judges: Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke. At the end of each episode, the audience votes for their favorite masked singer, and the loser must reveal their identity. Each week, the celebrity performers reveal small clues through brief video clips, which fans hope will ultimately lead to the masked singer's identity being uncovered.

Only The Monster, The Peacock, and The Bee are left in The Masked Singer competition, leading into season finale. Here's what we know about The Bee and an Atlanta native who fronted one of R&B’s most famous groups, Gladys Knight & The Pips.

Why The Bee Is Gladys Knight

Gladys Knight Super Bowl 53

The Bee states that she’s been singing since the ‘50s, and that “you can call me Queen Bee, but empress also suits me.” Gladys Knight formed the Pips in 1952 and later became known as “the empress of soul.” This particular masked singer hopes to reach a new generation, and there’s no better time than now given that Knight not only sang the U.S. national anthem at Super Bowl 53 but delivered a phenomenal performance as well.

Curiously, The Bee references a “new attitude” and a “superwoman,” which seems to be a reference to Knight’s resume and connection to fellow R&B icons Patti LaBelle and Dionne Warwick. "New Attitude" is a 1984 single by LaBelle, and "Superwoman" is a 1991 cover song recorded by Knight, LaBelle, and Warwick. The Bee also talks about the “sweet taste of victory” in episode 8, which could be a subtle reference to Gladys Knight & The Pips’ 1980 single “Taste of Bitter Love,” especially considering that The Bee mentions a willingness to “flip the script.”

The Bee is such a talented singer that one of the judges, Thicke, identified her as the “empress of soul.” To keep the gag going, however, The Bee obviously has to deflect attention. Still, all the evidence points in the same direction. Furthermore, The Bee states that baking is her “second favorite thing, and Knight actually released a book called At Home With Gladys Knight: Her Personal Recipe for Living Well, Eating Right, and Loving Life. Just last year, she appeared alongside Harry Connick Jr. for “Harry’s Cooking with Gladys Knight," so the correlation is abundantly clear. The Bee is Gladys, and Gladys is The Bee. But will she win?
