The Masked Singer will be returning to FOX on September 25th, and ahead of that, they've released a promo that shows that characters Thingamajig and Butterfly will be the ones to watch and wonder about this season.

During its first season, The Masked Singer has become a widely popular singing competition for its network, with its first finale chalking up nearly 11.5 million viewers. The Masked Singer lets celebrities from all walks of fame - singers, actors, comedians, talk show hosts - show off their singing chops while wearing a mask. To further hide their identity, they have the celebrity wear a full-body costume. The competition runs on a weekly basis with the same characters performs every week. The judges attempt to guess who the celebrity in disguise is. Throughout the season, performers who get eliminated are "unmasked" on stage for the world to finally see. There have only been a few times that the judges managed to guess who the performer was.

In a new preview released by FOX (via YouTube), viewers are first treated to a clip of the character named Thingamajig performing to a tearful Scherzinger. It's a fairly long preview compared to other characters so it looks like Thingamajig might be sticking around for a few weeks at least. Following their performance, the preview shows a high energy clip of a character called 'Butterfly' who also seems like they'll be a central character in the upcoming seasons. Snippets of other characters' performances are shown, but Thingamajig and Butterfly are the focus.

The Masked Singer Season 2

Though the season premieres on September 25th, FOX will be debuting a super sneak peek preview on September 15th as a precursor to season 2. The super sneak peek will reportedly introduce all the characters that will be featured on the upcoming season, so fans of the show will be able to have a leg up on the competition and start guessing who they believe the characters are. As a hint, the network has released stats for the undercover celebrities who have reportedly amassed 69 Emmy Awards nominations and 42 Grammy Award nominations. They've also accumulated 3 New York Times best-sellers as well as 22 Broadway shows. It's going to be a talent-filled cast. Nick Cannon will be returning to host season two of the show, and the judging panel will once again be made up of Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, and Nicole Scherzinger.

With the number of singing shows that exist, it's impressive that The Masked Singer managed to draw such a massive following after just one season, though it's likely because the concept behind the show is fairly original. It could also be because the series managed to have fairly well-known celebrities as their masked performers every week, including Tori Spelling, Donny Osmond, Latoya Jackson, and T-Pain. It's hard to say how long FOX will be able to keep the musical fantasy facade going in the years to come, but fans are certainly excited to see who the celebrities are hiding under the masks.
