The Masked Singer revealed its latest new costume for season 7, Hydra. With the celebrity competition returning on March 9, FOX has been teasing fans with reveals of several new costumes that will be featured. In a new twist this season on The Masked Singer, the contestants will be split into three teams: Team Good, Team Bad and Team Cuddly. Some fans have noticed that the costumes look a bit different this season. That's because the show's original costume designer, Marina Toybina, decided to leave The Masked Singer after season 6. It's unknown who took her place for season 7.
As The Masked Singer enters season 7, the host and panelists remain the same. Nick Cannon hosts, while Robin Thicke, Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong and Nicole Scherzinger are back on the panel. Two of them made headlines when, for the first time in Masked Singer history, an unmasking spoiler was leaked. It was particularly controversial, as Rudy Giuliani was apparently one of the contestants sent home. His costume wasn't revealed, however. While this likely aligns with the possibility of Rudy being a part of Team Bad, Ken wasn't having it. He reportedly stormed off the set immediately, with Robin following shortly after to check on Ken. Jenny and Nicole stayed put and apparently conversed with Rudy. That being said, fans will still have to tune in to find out which costume he's hiding under.
Now EW is revealing another costume set to take the Masked Singer stage, Hydra. Influenced by Greek mythology, Hydra is the first monster costume to have three heads. Based on the image that was released, the three-headed dragon, which is purple and green, is definitely large in size and has an overall menacing look. It also has three legs. Given Hydra's largeness, there could be more than one person inside. This would be similar to season 5's Russian Dolls, revealed to be singing brothers Hanson, or season 6's Beach Ball, revealed as mother and daughter reality stars Mama June and Honey Boo Boo.
It has also been confirmed that Hydra will join Team Bad. The other costumes in that group are Cyclops, Ram, Queen Cobra and Jack in the Box. Team Good consists of Firefly, McTerrier, Prince and Ringmaster. Finally, Team Cuddly has got Thingamabob, Lemur, Space Bunny and Baby Mammoth. All of these costumes were previously announced. Fans do not know, however, how the format will work this season. Producers tend to switch things up, from how soon viewers get to meet each group to crowning a winner for each group.
With yet another season of The Masked Singer approaching, fans have a lot to look forward to. While some may miss the designs created by the original costume designer, there are plenty of unique costumes just waiting to be shown off in season 7. Plus, the decision to split the contestants into groups based on personality could prove to be a fun twist. If Rudy is a part of Team Bad, who knows what other controversial celebrities might be unmasked. Perhaps it was a smart move for the producers, in terms of generating publicity. But it could also backfire. Fans have already called for a boycott due to Rudy's appearance, in which case producers may be worried. If one thing's for certain, it's that The Masked Singer is full of twists and turns.
