On his first The Masked Singer appearance, Whatchamacallit left fans and judges stumped as to his identity. After analyzing all the clues so far, we think we know which professional athlete is hiding behind all that hair.
After his first performance of "I Wish" By Skee-Lo, no one could agree on who was the celebrity behind the costume known as Whatchamacallit. The judges' guesses were all over and included Swizz Beatz, Damian Lillard, and Tyler the Creator. Fans had entirely different theories with guesses like Rashad Jennings, Black Panther's Winston Duke, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air himself Will Smith, and even Flavor of Love star Flavor Flav. A more likely guess was rapper Wiz Khalifa, who fit more than a few of the clues. While some clues fit a few people, no one seems to fit more clues than NBA star Lonzo Ball.
Ball does rap as well and even had an album "Born 2 Ball" which you can listen to below. It definitely sounds a bit like the hairy masked performer. The first clue for Whatchamacallit was that some might say his career got a magical start. This makes sense with Ball as he was drafted to the Lakers by Magic Johnson. One of the first clues shown was jello. Lonzo Ball's brother LiAngelo Ball goes by the nickname Gelo (pronounced jello). He said people think he's shy because he lets others absorb his spotlight. This is likely a reference to his father LeVar Ball, who is very vocal about his sons' careers. Good or bad, LeVar's sound bites often end up in the news.
He mentions dancing with the stars which many took to be a literal reference to the show Dancing With the Stars. However, it could just be a nod to his other passions: dancing and rapping. There were three bees. Ball launched Big Baller Brand (an athletic clothing and shoe company) with his family. The logo is BBB and the young basketball star even has a tattoo of it on his arm. There was a black panther in the clue package which could have multiple meanings. His father played for the Caroline Panthers. There was also an article about which NBA players would be which Marvel superheroes and Lonzo Ball was named for Black Panther.
The end of the clue package featured a clock packed full of visual clues. The hands were on the number 2 and a shrimp. The shrimp could mean the New Orleans Pelicans, the team Ball plays for currently. His jersey number is 2. The clock also had a 4.0 which happens to be Lonzo Ball's high school GPA. There were a pair of tan pants or chinos to represent Chino Hills, where Ball is from. The clock also featured the bear costume from last season, which many fans linked to Sarah Palin, who wore that costume. However, it could just be the bear itself that is significant. The young athlete played college ball for the UCLA Bruins. The team mascot is (of course) a bear.
There were other numbers and images on the clock that could also tie to Lonzo Ball. The number 12 could mean Pac-12. Ball was Pac-12 Freshman of the year. There is a record player. This could point to the fact that Ball holds the record for the youngest NBA player ever to have a triple-double. Or it could be his record "Born to Ball" or love of music. Either way, there is no shortage of clues that tie to the NBA player. At this point, it looks like Whatchamacallit is basketball star Lonzo Ball.
