Fox has released two new previews for The Masked Singer season 2. Hosted by Nick Cannon, the singing competition show debuted last January and became a surprise hit. The Masked Singer is based on the South Korean series The King of Mask Singer, and was developed for Fox by Craig Plestis.

In The Masked Singer, various celebrities appear anonymously wearing costumes. During face-off competitions, the performers display their talent, with complementary videos revealing small clues about their real identity. The audience and judges vote for their favorite performance. For The Masked Singer season 1, Ken Jeong, Jenny McCarthy, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke served as panelists. At the end of each episode, a celebrity is eliminated and removes their costume. The series aired for nine weeks, culminating with the finale on February 27. During The Masked Singer season 1, Joel McHale, J.B. Smoove, and Saturday Night Live’s Kenan Thompson appeared as guest judges. Iconic singer Gladys Knight took third place as the “Bee”, while former teen idol Donny Osmond earned second place as the “Peacock”. Musican T-Pain won The Masked Singer season 1 for his performances as the “Monster”.

On YouTube, Fox released two new promos for The Masked Singer season 2, using the show’s official account. The first one, entitled “TV's Greatest Show Is Back”, hypes the upcoming musical event, and includes a full screen graphic to indicate that it’s indeed “Showtime”. For extra hype, the promo uses a version of “The Greatest Show”, the song performed by Hugh Jackman in the 2017 musical The Greatest Showman. Early on, a smiley masked figure takes center stage, followed by a tiger, a flamingo, and even a skeleton. The clip features reaction shots from the returning group of original judges, with host Cannon receiving the final shot. The second preview video, “TV's Number One New Show Is Back”, is a little livelier, as the visuals are more up close and personal. In addition, Jenny McCarthy screams out “Oh My God”. One of the celebrity characters delivers the voiceover narration, and a full screen graphic promises that The Masked Singer season 2 will be “More Insane Than Ever”. Overall, the two preview clips emphasize the surreal nature of the show. Check out both promos for The Masked Singer season 2, below.

The Masked Singer season 2 will feature 16 contestants. So far, it’s been revealed that celebrities will be dressed as the following: Butterfly, Eagle, Egg, Flamingo, Fox, Leopard, Skeleton. While the second installment will debut later this year, Fox has already scheduled a third season that will premiere in February 2020 after the Super Bowl.

Now that NBC’s The Voice has lost some buzz, and ABC’s American Idol typically follows the usual structure, The Masked Singer offers a fresh spin on the singing competition format. The surprise element appeals to all demographics, along with the diverse celebrity lineup. Plus, the show doesn’t require a major commitment over several months. The Masked Singer season 2 will premiere September 25 on Fox.
