A preseason promo performance by Russian Doll from The Masked Singer season five, singing "Shallow" from A Star is Born, quickly made it clear that it is Russian Dolls, as two singers came out of the single costume. For their first official performance, Russian Dolls performed a classic by superstar Michael Jackson, "Man in the Mirror." Fans of a certain boy band are hoping there was still one more singer yet to emerge from the costume. They finally got their wish on week three when the third Russian Doll finally made an appearance.

The costume itself fits well with our prediction because it represents a doll known to keep opening and revealing smaller versions of itself. Since they come from a family known for being exceptionally large, it is a fitting representation. If we are correct, then the judges are way off. The judges have predicted wildly different duos, from Glee stars Matthew Morrison and Kevin McHale to The Voice coach Gwen Stefani and her former bandmate, Tom Dumont. Another panel member went country with a guess that members of the band Lady A could be masquerading as Russian Dolls.

Who Are Russian Dolls? Masked Singer Identity Theory: The Hanson Brothers

While the band Hanson was a trio including brothers Isaac, Taylor, and Zac Hanson, fans were quickly able to distinguish the two older brothers' voices in the first performances of Russian Dolls. The costumes line up with the noticeable height difference between Isaac and Taylor, with Isaac in the main costume and Taylor in the second one. Their character clues referenced both the size of their family and their path familiar to boy bands everywhere, which involved being the biggest thing around until the next boy band comes along. Both Hanson brothers have continued singing.

Week 3 Russian Dolls Clues

This week Russian Dolls' clues included a mobile with three planets, a banjo, a fire truck, a red and white letter jacket with the letter "M" on a wheelchair, and help with the letter "E" highlighted. Russian Dolls said they've always been in unison. The larger doll said he was doing something he loved when he noticed something was seriously wrong. He was rushed to the hospital with no guarantee he'd ever be the same. He said if it wasn't for the glue that bonds them, he might not have survived. He said the trauma made them even stronger and now they don't take anything they do together for granted. The smaller doll appeared to be holding a sign that said "Berry."

All Russian Dolls' Identity Clues & How They Fit

In addition to the most obvious clue of the third Russian Doll pointing to Hanson, the other clues this week fit as well. The personal stories tend to be the biggest spoilers and, with Russian Doll, it's still true. Isaac Hanson complained of chest pains after a show at House of Blues in Texas one night and was rushed to the hospital and treated for a pulmonary embolism. The M on the jacket fits their hit, "MMMBop."

The clue about the Russian Doll having 15 replicas of itself makes perfect sense as a clue for Hanson. Isaac has three kids, Taylor has seven kids, and Zac is expecting his fifth any day now for a staggering total of, yes, 15 kids between them. Their songs have not only appeared on many TV shows, but their song "Wake Up" was on the Princess Diaries soundtrack, and their megahit "MMMBop" was used in the movie Pitch Perfect 2, so the box office clue fits. The milk clue is a nod to the famous Got Milk ad the trio did with the signature milk mustaches seen on celebrities in that campaign. All the talk of being the hottest toy in the world until they were tossed aside for newer ones points to the fact that Hanson was the hottest band in the world at one point, yet, despite touring for over 20 years, they have never captured that level of fame again. Maybe Masked Singer is just what they need.

Previous Russian Dolls Clues

Cluedle-Doo's clue noted a Russian Doll can sometimes have 15 replicas of itself. Russian Doll noted they have been, for some time, doing their own thing. The visual clues included a container of milk, a sign that read

"Mizfitz Toyz Store," puppet strings, a boat helm, breadsticks, boxes that had recycle symbols on them, and another that said "office." There was also a bench that said, "Coming to a country near you soon" and a sign for Garden State Highway. Russian Doll also spoke of being thrown aside when newer toy fads came along to fill the shelves after they had once been the hottest toy in the world.
