Tonight's wildcard on The Masked Singer, Yeti, was able to freeze out the competition, which wasn't good news for the first wildcard, Orca. Though the rocker's departure was a shock, his identity wasn't. Orca was revealed to be Sugar Ray lead singer Mark McGrath, something we predicted from his first appearance. Tonight's performance of "Every Rose Has It's Thorn" by Poison fit with the rocker's style and proved to be moving following his very personal clue package. But in the end, it wasn't enough to keep him in the competition and Yeti took his spot.

While we might not have been surprised by who was under the mask, the panelists definitely were. Jenny McCarthy's first impression guess was Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl, but she changed that guess to surfer Kelly Slater. Nicole Scherzinger also guessed Grohl, but chose to stick with that guess. Robin Thicke and Ken Jeong were in rare agreement with their prediction that Orca was Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, a guess Robin had from the beginning, but Ken changed to from his original guess of Jon Bon Jovi. Though the guesses were off, they left McGrath with a huge ego boost.

Tonight's clue packaged focused heavily on a story about how Orca told his father he was going to be a dad. As his father's health deteriorated, he became laser-focused on his grandchild's baptism. Orca said he hung on just long enough for the ceremony. This heartbreaking story is about McGrath's father, who passed shortly after the baptism of his grandchildren in late 2010. The killer whale mentioned later that he had twins who were 10, which obviously fits with McGrath's own twins' ages. The fly swatter was for his hit song "Fly," which was also referenced in the previous clue package with a plane. The costume itself was a possible nod to his appearance in Sharknado 2.

Mark McGrath

The $3 and the three r's in "purrrr" clue were for his record as a three-time champion of Rock and Roll Jeopardy. As we pointed out previously, Orca's first story about how he was so desperate to get a break that he taped videotapes inside of pizza boxes to deliver around Hollywood was also a very personal tale that belongs to Mark McGrath. Director McG, who was the best friend of the rocker-turned-host, helped his band Sugar Ray to make a music video that they taped in a pizza box and delivered to a top record exec. It got them their first record deal.

The 1313 Melville clue was for his initials, M.M., as M is the 13th letter in the alphabet. There was a pizza menu with orange pizza for his childhood in Orange County, California. The menu also had a lemon pizza for the first album by Sugar Ray titled Lemonade and Brownies. Last listed was a pumpkin pizza for McGrath's appearance in a Smashing Pumpkins music video. The prices were $9, $4, and $9 and 949 is an Orange County area code.

A great clue that threw many was the hawk. This was because McGrath has an inside joke with actor Ethan Hawke. Fans often mistake the celebrities for each other. As a joke, they began signing each other's names when asked for autographs. Lastly, there was candy shown in both packages for the band Sugar Ray. McGrath, who is not new to reality TV, has appeared as both a contestant and host on various shows. His stint as Orca will likely be one of his most memorable ones. He will always hold the distinction of being the show's first wildcard.
