One of the most exciting performances on the premiere episode of The Masked Singer Season 4 was Popcorn. The most popular fan and judge guess, music legend Tina Turner, has some serious flaws.

Popcorn belted out "What About Us" by Pink. Her jaw-dropping performance made it crystal clear there was a big talent hiding behind the mask, so it was no surprise that the list of names being thrown around was equally impressive. The Masked Singer judges and viewers threw out names like musical powerhouses Mary J Blige and Tina Turner. Fans reacted quickly online, making it clear they didn't agree with the possibility of the Grammy-winning singer Blige being Popcorn. Any further speculation can be put to rest by the diminutive stature of Popcorn. At 5'9", the Mudbound actress would be as tall as Popcorn without the tall platform heels. Popcorn is not Mary J. Blige.

But what about "Proud Mary" singer Tina Turner? There was a reference to that iconic song in the form of a visual showing a "Proud Merry Go Round." The first problem with believing Turner is Popcorn is the logistics involved in her appearing on the show. The oft-revered Queen of Rock 'n' Roll lives in Switzerland where she has lived since 1994. In 2013, she even relinquished her U.S. citizenship and became a citizen of Switzerland. Now, this by itself doesn't mean she couldn't be on The Masked Singer, but the show films in LA and we are in the middle of a pandemic. Turner at 80 is in the highest risk category for Covid-19, making the journey (and having to relocate) a bigger deal than it would be for someone younger and/or already living in the Los Angeles area.

This is also a big issue considering her personal health battles. During the past decade, the "Let's Stay Together" singer has suffered a stroke, intestinal cancer, and kidney failure. She survived all three. After recovering from a kidney transplant, she has been doing well. Tina Turner was able to travel abroad last year to make a surprise appearance at the opening night of the Broadway musical based on her life. Without the pandemic, it might be plausible that she would still be able to make the journey and handle the filming schedule. However, the added risk makes it unlikely. The other issue is the costume itself.

While we have seen several older performers on The Masked Singer stage, this particular costume seems exceptionally challenging, with a large bulky headpiece and very high platform heels. No photos or videos anytime in the recent past show her wearing high heels, let alone platforms. It seems the risk of an 80-year-old woman jumping around in platform heels would make any insurance company a little wary. If anyone could pull it off, it would be Tina Turner. After all, she is "Simply the Best". However, the biggest reason that she isn't Popcorn is that, as I previously predicted, Popcorn is 80s pop star, Taylor Dayne!
