The Masked Singer fans fell for a fake tweet supposedly from the show's official Twitter account revealing Firefly's identity, but they soon found out the tweet was fake. Fans have been speculating on which celebrity is behind the Firefly costume since the contestant made their debut in the season 7 premiere episode. Firefly was initially rushed off stage after choking during her performance but showed how persistent she is by returning to finish her rendition of "Ain't Nobody" by season 3 contestant Chaka Khan. After three episodes, the contestant outperformed the rest of her group and will compete for the masked trophy in The Masked Singer season 7 finale.

Firefly's clues included pictures of Pharrell Williams, Tyler Perry and Kanye West; the Apollo Theater; and a golden Statue of Liberty. Panelists' guesses included Aisha Tyler, Keyshia Cole and Lauren Hill; however, fans followed the clue path to a different artist. After reviewing Firefly's vocals and hints, fans believe the contestant is singer-songwriter Teyana Taylor. One particular clue that stood out for fans was a video message from JoJo Siwa that was meant to help the panelists and fans guess Firefly's identity. The connection between the two goes back to Dancing With The Stars season 30 when JoJo was a finalist along with Teyana's husband, Iman Shumpert.

Unfortunately, fans who were eager to find out if their guess for Firefly is correct fell for a fake tweet they believed came from the show's official Twitter account. Youtuber and The Masked Singer superfan Joey Contino revealed that his phone was blowing up with Instagram notifications from fellow fans of the show sending him the tweet. The fans insisted that the tweet was real but had since been deleted once FOX realized it had accidentally been sent out. The tweet stated, "@TEYANATAYLOR Lit the stage as #FireflyMask! Watch her full reveal interview about her time on #TheMaskedSinger on our Facebook page." Joey went over the tweet in a now-deleted video, shocked that The Masked Singer had accidentally revealed Firefly's identity before her reveal aired.

However, a fan of the show soon revealed that they edited the tweet themselves to play a joke on fellow Masked Singer fans. Luckily, the Youtuber wasn't too upset by the joke and actually appreciated the prank for how believable it was. Fans on Reddit also joined in on the fun after Joey posted his initial video by editing another fake tweet in which The Masked Singer Twitter account revealed superstar Taylor Swift to be behind the Miss Teddy costume. The tweet read, "@taylorswift13 was the BEARY best as #MissTeddyMask!" Unfortunately for diehard Taylor Swift, this tweet is also just a joke.

By now, everyone should know how easy it is to make things up on the Internet, and unless they see it with your own eyes, they shouldn't be so quick to believe it. However, it's understandable how The Masked Singer fans let their excitement get the best of them. Figuring out who is behind the costumes is part of the fun of the show, and everyone likes to know that they guessed correctly. The Masked Singer's social media team is far too responsible to allow a mishap like the fake tweet happen. It looks like fans will just have to wait until The Masked Singer season 7 finale to find out Firefly's identity for real.
