Fans of The Masked Singer have wondered, who is the Egg? The identity of the over-the-top Egg that performed Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" was unmasked after being the first to be voted off, the man behind the mask was revealed figure skater Johnny Weir.
On The Masked Singer, celebrities perform for an audience and four judges: Jenny McCarthy, Ken Jeong, Nicole Scherzinger, and Robin Thicke. At the end of each episode of The Masked Singer, the audience votes for their favorite masked singer, and the loser must reveal their identity. Each week, the celebrity performers reveal small clues through brief video clips.
The 35-year-old two-time Olympian figure skater and fashion designer was revealed to be the identity behind the flamboyant Egg character. The first, and only, performance from the Egg was his rendition of "Just Dance" by Lady Gaga. While many fans were blown away by how a figure skater could sing so well. Some fans even compared his voice to that of singer Toderick Hall, some even thought it was him instead of Johnny behind the mask.
After being the first to be eliminated, fans were sad to see such an awesome singer gone right off the bat. The lively, energy-filled performance that Johnny had put on for America was as graceful as it was stunning to watch - just like his figure skating. After being unmasked, the LGBTA icon spoke about how this experience gave him a new appreciation for singers, saying, "I have such a new appreciation for what it takes to sing and dance." Even though the contestants of The Masked Singer only have a 45-second performance, he said he has "so much renewed appreciation for singers and songwriters."
After he was eliminated, Johnny spoke of his experience, saying, "It was such a big win for me." He continued, "I had the time of my life." He said that he would encourage anyone to come on The Masked Singer because "you get to feel good about yourself," and "you get to live out those childhood boyband dreams." Then said he's obviously disappointed that he lost, but in a way relieved that he doesn't have to wear the mask again. Though, Jonny said he's grown attached to his alter-ego identity of the Egg, saying, "I do love him. He's egg-cellent."
The clues that should have given away his identity, he mentions "figure" in his video clue, as well as images of fashion, skating, and swans. Thicke and McCarthy were the two judges who accurately guessed the identity of the Egg character. Even though a lot of fans felt like Johnny got robbed being eliminated so quickly from the show, he definitely put himself out there and fans loved it. Now that Johnny is retired from figure skating competitions, who knows, maybe his next step should be to pursue singing and performing.
The Masked Singer airs Wednesdays at 8pm EST on Fox.
